  1. 21. Regulation of phagocytosis and phagolysosome fusion in human leukocytes

    Författare :Maria Lindmark; Per-Arne Oldenborg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Professional phagocytes such as neutrophil granulocytes and macrophages are an esential part of the innate immune system. The neutrophils form the first line of defence against invading microorganisms and are important for rapid killing of the intruders. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Mosaic loss of chromosome Y : methods for detection and consequences for affected leukocytes and men

    Författare :Marcus Danielsson; Lars A. Forsberg; Ståhl Patrik; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mosaic loss of chromosome Y; mLOY; somatic mosaicism; Medicinsk genetik; Medical Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : It has been known for centuries that men live shorter lives than women, but until recently, the biological mechanisms driving this sex bias has been poorly understood. Mosaic loss of chromosome Y (mLOY) refers to chromosome Y aneuploidy, a male specific and the most common somatic mutation in human blood cells. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Carbohydrate dependent adhesion of leukocytes and the role of fucosyltransferase VII

    Författare :Per Bengtson; Carl G. Galunberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Galectins, E-and P-selectins are carbohydrate-binding proteins that are up regulated at inflammatory lesions. Selectins expressed ou the activated endothelium mediate transient binding to leukocyte ligands that require sequential action of α 2,3-sialyltransferases and a 1,3-fucosyltransferases. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Interactions between leukocytes, platelets and the endothelium in vein graft failure

    Författare :Chi-Nan Tseng; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Autologous venous grafts are preferred conduits in bypass surgery due to their length, easy harvesting, and feasibility. However, development of intimal hyperplasia decreases long-term patency rate in venous grafts prompting close clinical surveillance and further intervention. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Modulation of adhesion molecules on leukocytes during clinical and experimental hemodialysis : endothelial cell interacions

    Författare :Pia Thylén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Adhesion; adhesion molecules; complement; endothelial cells; hemodialysis; integrins; interleukin; leukocytes; selectins.;

    Sammanfattning : In patients on hemodialysis the sequential steps required for adhesion molecule mediated adherence of leukocytes to endothelial cells are unphysiologically disrupted since cell activation with subsequent alterations in adhesion molecule phenotypes takes place in the extracorporeal circuit far away from the respective endothelial cell ligand. The aims of the present investigations were to study the changes in adhesion molecule phenotypes on inflammatory cells induced by clinical and experimental hemodialysis and the consequences with regard to the capacity of the cells to adhere to endothelial cells.
