  2. 2. Cycles of voles, predators, and alternative prey in boreal Sweden

    Författare :Birger Hörnfeldt; S. Erlinge; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; 3-4 year cycles; Clethrionomys glareolus; Clethrionomys rufocanus; Microtus agrestis; snap-trapping; rate of change; population regulation; delayed density-dependence; time-lag mechanism; seasonality; predation; food; predator avoidance; foraging behaviour; Aegolius funereus; nest boxes; numerical response; nomadism; Vulpes vulpes; Sarcoptes scabiei vulpes; Lepus timidus; Francisella tularensis; Tetraonidae; hunting statistics; zooekologi; Animal Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Bank voles, grey-sided voles, and field voles had synchronous 3-4 year density cycles with variable amplitudes which averaged about 200-fold in each species. Cycles of vole predators (red fox and Tengmalm's owl), and their (foxes') alternative prey (mountain hare and forest grouse) lagged behind the vole cycles. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Lagovirus europaeus GI.2/RHDV2 (Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease Virus 2) : expanding the paradigm of a pathogenic lagovirus

    Författare :Aleksija Neimane; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Rabbit haemorrhagic disease (RHD) was first detected in 1984 and quickly spread among wild and domestic European rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) throughout the world. RHD and European brown hare syndrome (EBHS), a related disease of hares (Lepus spp.), are caused by pathogenic lagoviruses of the Family Caliciviridae. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Animal movement on short and long time scales and the effect on genetic diversity in cold-adapted species

    Författare :Vendela Kempe Lagerholm; Love Dalén; Anders Angerbjörn; Bensch Staffan; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Systematic Zoology; zoologisk systematik och evolutionsforskning;

    Sammanfattning : The genetic diversity in modern species is strongly affected by contemporary gene flow between populations, which in turn is governed by individual dispersal capacities and barriers in the landscape. However, current patterns of variation have also been shaped by movement over longer time-scales, such as the successive shifts in species distributions that have occurred during past climate changes.
