1. Thin Mn silicide and germanide layers studied by photoemission and STM
Sammanfattning : The research presented in this thesis concerns experimental studies of thin manganese silicide and germanide layers, grown by solid phase epitaxy on the Si(111)7×7 and the Ge(111)c(2×8) surfaces, respectively. The atomic and electronic structures, as well as growth modes of the epitaxial Mn-Si and Mn-Ge layers, were investigated by low-energy electron diffraction (LEED), angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES), core-level spectroscopy (CLS), and scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy (STM and STS). 2. Coding for multiple-access and fading channels
Sammanfattning : This thesis treats some information-theoretical and coding aspects of communication over multiple-access and fading channels. It consists of a general introduction and seven papers. In code-division multiple-access (CDMA) communication, many users have access to the channel simultaneously. LÄS MER
3. Computer simulation - a tool for optimisation of ventilator setting in critical lung disease
Sammanfattning : Increasing attention is paid to mechanical ventilation as one cause behind aggravation of lung injury. Lung protective ventilation can be achieved e.g. by minimising tidal lung collapse and re-expansion and by the use of small tidal volume allowing some degree of permissive hypercapnia. LÄS MER
4. Cervical Radiculopathy: A Study With Selective Nerve Root Blocks
Sammanfattning : Cervical radiculopathy is diagnosed by history, clinical examination of the patient and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the cervical spine. In many of the patients undergoing this diagnostic strategy, the nerve root/roots responsible for the radicular pain is difficult to define as clinical examination and MRI investigation does not provide information enough. 5. På spaning efter arbetsplatsvalidering : en studie av fyra organisationers synliggörande av kompetens
Sammanfattning : Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) has become a frequently used method in the assessment and evaluation of knowledge and skills, mainly with unemployed people with the aim to facilitate the transition to further education or employment situations. RPL has chiefly been used within municipality driven adult education activities, often seen as a labour market measure. LÄS MER
