  1. 16. Mechanical Circulatory Support in Left Ventricular Heart Failure

    Författare :Petter Schiller; Laila Hellgren; Anders Jönsson; Göran Dellgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mechanical Circulatory Support; Left Ventricular Heart Failure; Left Ventricular Assist Device; Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation; ECMO; Thorax Surgery; Thoraxkirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Short-term mechanical circulatory support (MCS) with ventricular assist devices or veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA ECMO) has become the standard treatment in patients with cardiogenic shock unresponsive to pharmacological treatment. However, the haemodynamic effects of these devices are not yet fully described, nor are their effects on ventricular function and myocardial recovery. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Insights into left atrial response to pressure and volume overload

    Författare :Matteo Lisi; Michael Henein; Sergio Mondillo; Lars-Åke Lars; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Keywords Mitral regurgitation; aortic stenosis; speckle tracking echocardiography; heart transplantation; left atrial strain; left ventricualr function; right ventricular function; myocardial fibrosis;

    Sammanfattning : The general purpose of this thesis is to establish the ability of Speckle Tracking Echocardiography (STE) in assessing left atrial (LA) response to pressure and volume overload respectively in aortic stenosis (AS) and mitral regurgitation (MR), and to evaluate its accuracy in predicting LA and right ventricular (RV) fibrosis in patients with end-stage heart failure (HF) undergoing heart transplantation (HTx).I demonstrated that assessment of left ventricular (LV) long axis systolic velocity and amplitude of excursion is more sensitive than simple determination of ejection fraction (EF) for revealing the beneficial impact of MR surgery on overall LV systolic performance. 3. 18. Diastolic heart function in hypertension-induced left ventricular hypertrophy

    Författare :Richard Müller-Brunotte; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Hypertension; left ventricular hypertrophy; diastolic function; myocardial fibrosis; angiotensin II; echocardiography;

    Sammanfattning : Hypertensive left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy is an independent strong risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. An abnormal diastolic relaxation in the absence of systolic impairment is often seen in patients with hypertension, whether LV hypertrophy is present or not. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Left atrial function in health and disease

    Författare :Mark Henein; Per Lindqvist; Stellan Mörner; Reidar Winter; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Left atrium; Doppler echocardiography; atrial interaction; atrial pressure;

    Sammanfattning : The Objectives of this thesis are:1) To study possible atrial interaction in patients with right and left ventricular outflow tract obstruction due to significant pulmonary (PS) and aortic valve stenosis (AS), respectively.2) To assess left atrial (LA) intrinsic myocardial function and its relationship to indirect measures of left ventricular (LV) filling pressures in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF). 5. 20. Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction in 75-year-old Men and Women : A Community-based Study of Prevalence, Screening and Mitral Annulus Motion for Diagnosis and Prognostics

    Författare :Pär Hedberg; Tommy Jonason; Ivar Ringqvist; Eva Nylander; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Aged; Heart Failure; Ventricular Function; Prevalence; Echocardiography; Electrocardiography; Natriuretic Peptide; Mortality; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Reduced performance of the left ventricle to eject blood – left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVSD) – is a common predecessor of the heart failure syndrome. With or without symptoms, LVSD is associated with a poor prognosis. LÄS MER
