6. Strain echocardiography in cardiac surgery - studies on the effects of loading conditions and inotropic agents on myocardial contraction and relaxation
Sammanfattning : Background: Although reductions in myocardial contractility and relaxation are key compo-nents in heart failure (HF), assessment of them is difficult, as clinical measurements deal with a net effect of myocardial contractility, heart filling (preload), outflow impedance (afterload) and heart rate (HR). Echocardiographic (echo) deformation parameters, like strain (myocardial shortening) and strain rate (the speed of deformation, SR), have been proposed to more accu-rately measure myocardial function, but incongruent previous studies have raised concerns that they may be load-dependent. 7. Epidemiology of heart failure and feasibility of home care in patients with worsening chronic heart failure
Sammanfattning : Aim: To investigate gender-specific trends in long-term mortality in patients hospitalised for ischaemic and non-ischaemic heart failure (HF) and explore temporal trends in the risk of HF complicating acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Another aim is to characterise patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) that seek an emergency department (ED) because of their deteriorating condition and evaluate the feasibility of home care (HC) in comparison with conventional care (CC) in patients with worsening CHF. 8. Assessment of Left Ventricular Dysfunction and Remodelling by Determination of Atrioventricular Plane Displacement and Simplified Echocardiography
Sammanfattning : Heart failure is a common disease characterised by poor prognosis and frequent hospitalisations, constituting a major economic burden to society. Mortality and morbidity can be reduced by optimal treatment, requiring objective evaluation of cardiac function and anatomy. LÄS MER
9. PET in Heart Failure - Methods and Applications
Sammanfattning : Positron Emission Tomography (PET) permits regional myocardial perfusion, fibrosis and oxidative metabolism to be non-invasively quantified with radioactive tracers such as [15O]-water and [1-11C]-acetate. PET is an established research tool in congestive heart failure (CHF), a major cause of morbidity and mortality. LÄS MER
10. Mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists in heart failure : exploring the gap between guideline-directed medical therapy and real-world practice
Sammanfattning : Heart failure is the possible end-result of a variety of different diseases, where ischemic heart disease and hypertension are the most common causes in high income countries. In Sweden, heart failure has a prevalence of 2% in the adult population and rises to over 10% among people over 70 years of age. The 5-year all-cause mortality is about 50%. LÄS MER
