21. Clinical studies in severe heart failure : neurohormonal, electrolyte and metabolic aspects
Sammanfattning : Congestive heart failure is a common and complex syndrome with a poor prognosis. Although heart disease is usually the primary event, the clinical syndrome is characterised by several extra-cardiac manifestations. Neurohormonal activation seems to play a crucial role for these manifestations and the progression of the disease. LÄS MER
22. Heart failure : aspects on treatment and prognosis
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to describe aspects on treatment and prognosis in heart failure. In paper I, we studied two hundred and seventy-nine hospitalised heart failure patients, and related clinical and demograhic data to the use of diagnostic tests, treatment and follow up. LÄS MER
23. Assessment of Pulmonary Blood Flow in Heart Failure. Using Novel and Non-Invasive Diagnostic Methods
Sammanfattning : In heart failure (HF), the heart is unable to pump effectively in order to satisfy the demands of the body. The elevated filling pressure seen in HF leads to accumulation of fluid in the lungs, i.e pulmonary congestion. While investigation with chest X-ray is recommended, it has limitations in detecting pulmonary congestion. LÄS MER
24. Biomarkers of inflammation in atrial fibrillation
Sammanfattning : Atrial fibrillation (AF) is common and associated with increased risk of stroke, heart failure (HF) and mortality. Inflammation is linked to AF.The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate inflammatory activity and cardiovascular outcomes and mortality in patients with AF on effective oral anticoagulation. 25. The clinical value of total isovolumic time
Sammanfattning : The objective of this thesis is to evaluate the use of Doppler echocardiography markers ofglobal dyssynchrony [total isovolumic time (t-IVT)] in the following 6 studies: 1) Its prognostic role in predicting cardiac events in patients undergoing CABG surgery, compared with conventional global systolic and diastolic measurements. 2) Its additional value in predicting six minute walk test (6-MWT) in patients with leftventricular (LV) ejection fraction (EF) .
