  1. 1. Mechanical and histological disturbances in advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation

    Författare :Matteo Cameli; Michael Henein; Guy Lloyd; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Advanced heart failure; heart transplantation; speckle tracking echocardiography; left ventricular function; right ventricular function; left ventricular fibrosis; left ventricular filling pressure; atrial strain; kariologi; Cariology;

    Sammanfattning : The general purpose of this thesis is to establish capability and accuracy of speckle tracking echocardiography (STE) in assessing left atrial (LA), left ventricular (LV) and right ventricular (RV) function and their correlation with myocardial fibrosis, filling pressure and clinical outcomes in advanced heart failure (HF) patients before and after heart transplantation (HT).I demonstrated that HT recipients had impaired LV twist dynamics in the form of reduced rotation twist angle and untwist rate but time to peak twist was not different from the age matched controls and other cardiac surgical patients. 2. 2. Mechanical Circulatory Support in Left Ventricular Heart Failure

    Författare :Petter Schiller; Laila Hellgren; Anders Jönsson; Göran Dellgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mechanical Circulatory Support; Left Ventricular Heart Failure; Left Ventricular Assist Device; Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation; ECMO; Thorax Surgery; Thoraxkirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Short-term mechanical circulatory support (MCS) with ventricular assist devices or veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA ECMO) has become the standard treatment in patients with cardiogenic shock unresponsive to pharmacological treatment. However, the haemodynamic effects of these devices are not yet fully described, nor are their effects on ventricular function and myocardial recovery. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Nitrates and Left Ventricular Dysfunction

    Författare :Erik Tingberg; Kardiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; lipid peroxidation; malondialdehyde; peptide; brain natriuretic peptide; left ventricular dysfunction; nitrates; acute myocardial infarction; heart failure; atrial natriuretic; diuretics; echocardiography; haemodynamic measurements; neurohumoral activation; diastolic dysfunction; Cardiovascular system; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Kardiovaskulära systemet; oxidative stress; isoprostanes;

    Sammanfattning : Use of beta-blockers and inhibitors of the renin angiotensin system (RAS) is established practice in the treatment of chronic heart failure (CHF). Clinical studies also suggest beneficial long-term effects of nitrates in CHF. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Management of patients treated with left ventricular assist devices : A clinical and experimental study

    Författare :Bengt Peterzén; Henrik Casimir-Ahn; Hans Ruthberg; Lars Wiklund; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; postcardiotomy heart failure; perioperative monitoring; coronary artery bypass; heart-assist devices; heart failure; congestive; ventricular dysfunction; Thoracic surgery; Thoraxkirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the management of patients treated with mechanical circulatory support devices for short- or long-term use. Twenty-four patients suffering from postcardiotomy heart failure were treated with a minimally invasive axial flow pump. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Left Ventricular Function in Elderly Men : Metabolic, Hormonal, Genetic and Prognostic Implications

    Författare :Johan Ärnlöv; Anders Waldenström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; echocardiography; heart failure; left ventricular function; genetics; mortality; insulin sensitivity; natriuretic peptides; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; Geriatrics; geriatrik;

    Sammanfattning : Heart failure and left ventricular dysfunction are major causes of morbidity and mortality. In this thesis, metabolic, hormonal, genetic and prognostic aspects of echocardiographically determined left ventricular function were investigated in a fairly large longitudinal population-based study of men.
