1. Morphological and chemical leaf traits of tropical montane tree species and their responses to warming
Sammanfattning : Leaf morphological and chemical traits of tropical trees vary along climate gradients, but it is currently unclear how they will respond to a rapidly warming climate and how this will vary among species. Considering this, tropical trees native to East and Central Africa were investigated in three complementary studies in Rwanda. LÄS MER
2. Morphometric differentiation in Papaver radicatum (Papaveraceae) : Geographic pattern and significance for refugial survival theory
Sammanfattning : The morphometric pattern of variation among and within Scandinavian populations of the alpine species Papaver radicatum was studied. Results from analyses (including multivariate techniques) of capsule and leaf traits of wild-collected and cultivated plants as well as wild-collected seeds show correlated patterns of variation in capsule traits and partly corresponding patterns of variation between capsule and seed traits. 3. Respiratory NAD(P)H dehydrogenases of plants - Gene identity and expression in response to light and cold
Sammanfattning : The respiratory chain of plants contains class 2 NAD(P)H dehydrogenases, not present in animals. The functional roles of these enzymes have been elusive for a long time. Two cDNAs, homologous to class 2 NADH dehydrogenase genes of yeast and E. coli, were isolated from potato leaves. LÄS MER
4. Comparative morphological studies of fossil and living plane trees (Platanaceae) and oaks (Quercus): taxonomy, ecology, evolution
Sammanfattning : Morphological characters are essential for flowering plant identification, but also provide information about diversity patterns and ecological adaptation. In woody plant species, characters of the leaf are among the most useful and can be examined on fossils as well. LÄS MER
5. The spatial structure of genetic and morphometric variation in Corylus avellana (Betulaceae): pattern and scale
Sammanfattning : In the present thesis, I investigated the spatial structure of genetic and morphometric variation in the widespread wind-pollinated shrub Corylus avellana (L.) Betulaceae, hazel, and related the variation to geographic distribution and different spatial scales. LÄS MER
