  1. 16. Freedom of expression in armed conflict : The silence between spaces

    Författare :Sally Alexandra Longworth; Ola Engdahl; Inger Österdahl; Pål Wrange; Marko Milanovic; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; international humanitarian law; international human rights law; armed conflict; occupation; freedom of expression; freedom of opinion; access to information; journalists; internet; social media; coercion; no quarter; threats; terrorism; censorship; hate speech; incitement to violence; propaganda; disinformation; misinformation; rättsvetenskap med inriktning mot folkrätt; Legal Science; specialisation Public International Law;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the relationship between international human rights law (IHRL) and international humanitarian law (IHL) in regards to the right to freedom of expression in armed conflict. Freedom of expression is a touchstone of other human rights and a cornerstone of democracy. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Investigations on the Formation of Defect Bands in Semi-Solid High Pressure Die Cast Aluminium-Silicon Alloys

    Författare :Madeleine Law; Pär Jönsson; Christopher Hulme-Smith; Taishi Matsushita; Jessica Elfsberg; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Semi-Solid Metals; SSM; Al-Si Alloys; Defect bands; HPDC; Semisolida metaller; SSM; Al-Si-Alloys; defektband; HPDC; Metallurgical process science; Metallurgisk processvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : High-pressure die casting of semi-solid aluminium-silicon alloys is used in the automotive industry to manufacture components, like housings, brackets, and bars. It is commonly known that during high-pressure die casting, defect bands may be created that follow the contour of the component surface. These bands consist mainly of a eutectic phase. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Legal Implications of Data Mining : Assessing the European Union’s Data Protection Principles in Light of the United States Government’s National Intelligence Data Mining Practices

    Författare :Liane Colonna; Cecilia Magnusson Sjöberg; Antonina Bakardjieva-Engelbrekt; Dan Svantesson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; data mining; data protection; privacy; Directive 95 46 ec; data transfers; EU law; US law; rättsinformatik; Law and Information Technology;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation addresses some of the data protection challenges that have arisen from globalization, technological progress, terrorism and seamless cross-border flows of personal data.  The focus of the thesis is to examine ways to protect the personal data of EU citizens, which may be collected by communications service providers such as Google and Facebook, transferred to the US Government and data mined within the context of American national intelligence surveillance programs. 4. 19. Superinductance and fluctuating two-level systems: Loss and noise in disordered and non-disordered superconducting quantum devices

    Författare :David Niepce; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Disordered Superconductors; Nanowire; Superinductor; Quantum information; Superconducting circuits; Superinductance; TLS; Two-level Systems;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, we first demonstrate that a disordered superconductor with high kinetic inductance can realise a microwave low-loss, non-dissipative circuit element with impedance greater than the quantum resistance. This element, known as a superinductor, can suppress the fluctuations of charge in a quantum circuit. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Applications of Information Inequalities to Linear Systems : Adaptive Control and Security

    Författare :Ingvar Ziemann; Henrik Sandberg; Alexandre Proutiere; Nikolai Matni; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Stochastic Adaptive Control; Machine Learning; Fisher Information; Secure Control; Fundamental Limitations; Reinforcement Learning; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis considers the application of information inequalities, Cramér-Rao type bounds, based on Fisher information, to linear systems. These tools are used to study the trade-offs between learning and performance in two application areas: adaptive control and control systems security. LÄS MER
