  1. 21. Conservation of semi-natural grasslands : Effects of different management methods on biodiversity

    Författare :Malin Tälle; Lars Westerberg; Per Milberg; Uno Wennergren; Hans Henrik Bruun; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Species-rich semi-natural grassland are valuable habitats in the agricultural landscape as they may contain a high diversity of both plant and animal species, as well as provide essential ecosystem services like pollination. To keep these habitats open and to maintain the biodiversity in them, management like grazing or mowing is necessary. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Landslide scars in the Kenyan highlands : Physical and chemical topsoil changes and landslide susceptibility assessment under tropical conditions

    Författare :Anna Wahlstrand; Ingmar Borgström; Lars-Ove Westerberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : Farmers living in the Kenyan highlands are exposed to the risk of being affected by landslides and they are vulnerable because of lack of resources. Vulnerability can be reduced by increasing knowledge and awareness of the risk. This thesis aims to increase knowledge of landslide-related problems. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Diatoms in Lake Duluti : Tracking Environmental Variability in Northern Tanzania during the Past 1000 Years

    Författare :Helena Öberg; Lars-Ove Westerberg; Karin Holmgren; Jan Risberg; Robert Marchant; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Paleolimnology; Tanzania; Diatoms; Climate change; Crater lake; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : The tropics are the regions which are least understood climatically and new data on past climate variability is necessary for reliable future modeling of climate change. This thesis contributes with new paleoenvironmental information from a small crater lake in northern Tanzania and provides an additional link between the integrated history of climate, environment and socioeconomic variability in tropical Africa.
