  1. 21. Train your brain : updating, transfer, and neural changes

    Författare :Erika Dahlin; Lars Nyberg; Anna Stigsdotter Neely; Torkel Klingberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; cognitive training; executive functioning; transfer; fMRI; brain system; young adults; elderly; practice; neural correlates; individual differences; Experimental brain research; Experimentell hjärnforskning; Cognitive science; Kognitionsforskning; fysiologi; Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : An initial aim of this thesis was to determine whether training of a specific executive function (updating) produces improvements in performance on trained and transfer tasks, and whether the effects are maintained over time. Neural systems underlying training and transfer effects were also investigated and one question considered is whether transfer depends on general or specific neural overlap between training and transfer tasks. 2. 22. “Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde?” : Abuse of potent benzodiazepines, exemplified by flunitrazepam, in mentally disordered male offenders

    Författare :Anna Maria Dåderman; Marianne Kristiansson; Lars Lidberg; Ann Wirsén Meurling; Sten Levander; Fred Nyberg; Karolinska Institutet Division of Forensic Psychiatry Department of Clinical Neuroscience; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []

    Sammanfattning : Flunitrazepam (FZ) is an example of a sedative-hypnotic benzodiazepine whose pharmacokinetic properties include a rapid onset of action and an intermediate duration of action. It has a high affinity to central benzodiazepine receptors and affects them profoundly. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Exploring the Hidden Dimensions of Distraction in Adults with Atypical Attention

    Författare :Pia Elbe; Jessica Körning-Ljungberg; Daniel Sörman; Mariana Vega Mendoza; Lars Nyberg; Henrik Danielsson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; attention; distraction; ADHD; cognition; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Inattention and proclivity for distraction are symptoms of adult ADHD that hamper productivity in study and work environments. The topic of this dissertation is mechanisms of distraction and facilitation of attention in ADHD. This thesis includes three studies. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Neuroimaging Consciousness: What happens in the brain when we become aware of what we percieve?

    Författare :Johan Eriksson; Lars Nyberg; Martin Ingvar; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Psychology; Psykologi; Psychology; psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Although consciousness has been studied since the beginning of the history of psychology, how the brain implements consciousness is seen as one of the last great mysteries. This thesis investigates neural correlates of consciousness by measuring brain activity while specific contents of consciousness are defined and maintained. LÄS MER

  5. 25. The conscious brain : Empirical investigations of the neural correlates of perceptual awareness

    Författare :Johan Eriksson; Lars Nyberg; Geraint Rees; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; consciousness; visual perception; object identification; functional neuroimaging; top-down processing; prefrontal cortex; auditory perception; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Although consciousness has been studied since ancient time, how the brain implements consciousness is still considered a great mystery by most. This thesis investigates the neural correlates of consciousness by measuring brain activity with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) while specific contents of consciousness are defined and maintained in various experimental settings.
