1. Treponema spp. in porcine skin ulcers : clinical aspects
Sammanfattning : The hypothesis tested in this work is that bacteria of genus Treponema play a main role when shoulder ulcers and ear necrosis occur in an infectious or severe form, and perhaps also in other skin conditions in the pig. Samples were collected from pigs in 19 Swedish herds 2010-2011. LÄS MER
2. Assessment of Valvular Aortic Stenosis by Signal Analysis of the Phonocardiogram
Sammanfattning : Aortic stenosis (AS) is one of the most prevalent valvular heart diseases in elderly people. According to the recommendations of both the American Heart Association and the European Society of Cardiology, severity assessment of AS is primarily based on echocardiographic findings. LÄS MER
3. Development and evaluation of a subunit DIVA vaccine against bluetongue virus serotype 8 in cattle
Sammanfattning : Bluetongue virus (BTV) causes the primarily vector-borne bluetongue disease of ruminants, which poses a permanent threat to Europe since new serotypes and strains are frequently introduced. Vaccination of cattle is essential to control BTV outbreaks. LÄS MER
4. Hormone concentrations during pregnancy and maternal risk of epithelial ovarian cancer
Sammanfattning : Background: The aim of this thesis was to study the relationship of pre-diagnostic circulating concentrations of sex steroid hormones (androgens, estradiol, 17-hydroxyprogesterone, and progesterone), growth factors (insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I), placental growth hormone (GH)), sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), and anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) with risk of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) overall, and by tumor invasiveness and histology. A longitudinal study was used to assess patterns of hormonal changes during a single pregnancy, and in two consecutive pregnancies. LÄS MER
5. Studies of the molecular genetics and epidemiology of porcine rubulavirus infection
Sammanfattning : Porcine rubulavirus (PorPV) infection emerged spontaneously in pigs in Mexico in the early 1980s. Since the report of the initial outbreak of the disease, only one full-length genome from a strain isolated in 1984 (PorPV-LPMV/1984) has been sequenced. There is therefore limited information about the genetic variation of this virus. LÄS MER
