  1. 1. Language problems at 2½ years of age and their relationship with school-age language impairment and neuropsychiatric disorders

    Författare :Carmela Miniscalco; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :language screening; language development; language delay; longitudinal; neuropsychiatric disorders; narrative skill;

    Sammanfattning : Background: International research has shown that language delay (LD) is associated with social, cognitive, emotional and/or behavioural deficiencies, but there is still a need for extended knowledge about LD at early age and its relationship with long-term language impairment and neuropsychiatric disorders in Swedish children. Aims: To study (a) if children with a positive screening result or a negative screening result at 2½ years of age showed persistent or transient language difficulties at 6 years of age and, (b) whether or not children identified by language screening at 2½ years of age were diagnosed with language, neurodevelopmental and/or neuropsychiatric impairments at school age. 2. 2. Aspects of Communication, Language and Literacy in Autism Child Abilities and Parent Perspectives

    Författare :Emilia Carlsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Autism spectrum disorders; communication; language; theory of mind; literacy; reading; narrative ability; children; parents;

    Sammanfattning : The main aim of this thesis was to investigate literacy, ‘theory of mind’ (ToM) and narrative ability in children who had screened positive for autism spectrum disorders (ASD) (comprehensively assessed for neuropsychiatric problems), and relate the findings to their structural linguistic capacity, as measured by language tests at the word and sentence levels. Considering the important roles of families in shaping children’s language socialisation, another aim was to explore the parental experiences of having a child go through the neuropsychiatric and language diagnostic process. 3. 3. Specific language impairment: Neurophysiological studies of children and their parents

    Författare :Marianne Ors; Klinisk neurofysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; SPECT; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; N400; P300; P3; N1; ERPs; event-related brain potentials; children; developmental language delay; Specific language impairment; language disorder; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi;

    Sammanfattning : Specific language impairment (SLI) is commonly described as a condition where a child with otherwise normal development and hearing does not acquire language as expected. Children with SLI often have a family history of language disorders. The aetiology is poorly understood. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Children who screen positive for language delay but not autism: from 2.5 to 6 years of age

    Författare :Ulrika Schachinger-Lorentzon; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Developmental language disorder; Neurodevelopmental disorder; 2-5; 5-15R; Language disorder; screening; Quality of life; speech and language pathology; ESSENCE; multilingualism; autism;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Language disorders (LDs) are prevalent, affecting approximately 10% of children. Among them, 7.5% have developmental language disorder (DLD), while 2.5% have LD associated with a known medical condition. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Procedural and Declarative Memory in Children with Developmental Disorders of Language and Literacy

    Författare :Martina Hedenius; Margareta Jennische; Jonas Persson; Michael T Ullman; Elena Plante; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Specific Language Impairment; Developmental Dyslexia; Procedural memory; Declarative memory; Implicit sequence learning;

    Sammanfattning : The procedural deficit hypothesis (PDH) posits that a range of language, cognitive and motor impairments associated with specific language impairment (SLI) and developmental dyslexia (DD) may be explained by an underlying domain-general dysfunction of the procedural memory system. In contrast, declarative memory is hypothesized to remain intact and to play a compensatory role in the two disorders. LÄS MER
