1. Synthesis of Novel Polyhydroxyl Surfactants. Influence of the Relative Stereochemistry on Surfactant Properties
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the synthesis and characterization ofnovel polyhydroxyl surfactants. The first part describes thesynthesis of a number of stereoisomers of a polyhydroxylsurfactant, and the second part concerns surface chemicalcharacterization. LÄS MER
2. Fatty Acid Self-Assembly at the Air–Water Interface : Curvature, Patterning, and Biomimetics: A Study by Neutron Reflectometry and Atomic Force Microscopy
Sammanfattning : For more than a hundred years of interfacial science, long chain fatty acids have been the primary system for the study of floating monolayers at the air–water interface due to their amphiphilic nature and system simplicity: an insoluble hydrocarbon chain and a soluble carboxyl group at a flat air–water interface. Despite―or perhaps rather due to―the assumed simplicity of such systems and the maturity of the research field, the seemingly fundamentally rooted notion of a two-dimensional water surface has yet to be challenged. 3. Synthesis of Polyhydroxylated Surfactants : Comparison of Surfactant Stereoisomers and Investigation of Haemolytic Activity
4. POLYPEPTIDES - STRUCTURES AND INTERACTIONS IN MONOLAYERS AND AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis work is to understand and be able to control polypeptide conformation and interactions at interfaces and in solution by changing the solution conditions. For this purpose simple model polypeptides, so-called polyamino acids, have been investigated at the air-liquid interface, as well as in aqueous solutions. LÄS MER
5. Lipid bilayers versus monolayers- Sponge phases and skin lipid domains
Sammanfattning : The L3, or sponge, phase is a thermodynamically stable isotropic liquid consisting of a surfactant membrane in aqueous solution. A solvent induced L3 phase is shown in systems of solvent, monoolein and water. LÄS MER
