2. Integrated sewage sludge treatment scenarios – techno-economic analysis on energy and phosphorus recovery
Sammanfattning : Sewage sludge is a by-product of wastewater treatment that simultaneously gathers contaminants, valuable organic matter, and nutrients. The treatment of the increasing amount of sewage sludge is important from both pollution prevention and resource recovery perspectives as i) large shares of mineral phosphorus, listed as a critical raw material, terminate in the sewage sludge, and ii) energy recovery from sewage sludge can cover the energy-intensive demand of the treatment process. 3. Can new treatment combinations make sewage sludge management more sustainable?
Sammanfattning : Treated sewage sludge is often reused as a fertilizer but several European countries are phasing out this option due to concerns about harmful substances in the sludge. Valuables in the sludge should still be recycled so the removal of the pollutants is necessary. LÄS MER
4. Sustainable Sewage Sludge Management : Addressing Multidisciplinary Challenges
Sammanfattning : This PhD thesis focuses on multidisciplinary challenges in sewage sludge management and how they can be addressed to increase sustainability. Sewage sludge is the residual from wastewater treatment. It contains both resources and contaminants making its management challenging. LÄS MER
5. Treatment oriented waste characterization
Sammanfattning : New types of materials and products are developed every day, and subsequently, new types of wastes. At the same time, new regulations are put forth to protect human health and the ecosystems from the negative impacts of wastes. LÄS MER
