Sammanfattning : The first aim of this thesis was to evaluate a new minimally invasive axial blood flow pump for treatment of patients needing circulatory support after open heart surgery. This system, the Hemopump temporary cardiac assist device, is a very small catheter mounted intracorporeal pump, which is introduced transvalvularly into the left ventricle. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : Implantation of a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) is a potential treatment in terminal heart failure. Right ventricular (RV) failure is a severe complication in these patients and sometimes requires additional placement of a right ventricular assist device (RVAD). LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : Background Heart failure (HF) affects 2-3% of the Western population and is associated with a 1 year mortality of 20%. Despite therapeutic advances over the last decades, numerous unanswered questions remain regarding the impact of currently established therapies as well as potential new targets for therapy. Aims - to investigate 1. LÄS MER
4. Between the Probe and the Pump : An experimental study on cardiac performance analysis based on Echocardiography, tissue and laser Doppler
Sammanfattning : Echocardiography is an ultrasound-based bedside, non-invasive and easily available cardiac diagnostic technique visualising the heart’s morphology and function. Quantification of cardiac wall motion can be measured with the tissue Doppler Imaging (TDI) modality which provides in humans a high diagnostic capacity to differentiate healthy from diseased myocardium with reduced function. Sammanfattning : Background. Heart failure (HF) is a major health problem affecting millions of patients worldwide and is associated with impaired quality of life and poor prognosis. Different approaches including invasive and non-invasive methods can be used to provide information about the cardiac performance in HF patients. LÄS MER
