1. Optical Diagnostics of Gasoline Compression Ignition : HCCI-PPC-Diffusion Combustion
Sammanfattning : Access to clean and affordable energy is one of the cornerstones of the world's society. Since the introduction of the internal combustion engine, diesel engines have become widely used for transportation in the commercial sector. LÄS MER
2. Low Temperature Combustion in a Heavy Duty Diesel Engine
Sammanfattning : In recent years, there have been major efforts to reduce engine emissions and fuel consumption. The studies described in this thesis were conducted with the aim of identifying methods for reducing harmful engine-out emissions of soot and nitrogen oxides (NOx) under high load without increasing fuel consumption. LÄS MER
3. Advancing the understanding of pilot ignition in dual fuel engines : Experimental and conceptual studies
Sammanfattning : The energy transition is looking for new technologies to reduce CO2 emissions. One of the promising options is the dual fuel engine. In this concept, based on a diesel engine, a small pilot diesel injection is used to ignite a second fuel. LÄS MER
4. High Octane Number Fuels in Advanced Combustion Modes for Sustainable Transportation
Sammanfattning : The research community recently proposed a low-temperature combustion (LTC) concept that can simultaneously reduce Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) and soot emissions while maintaining high engine efficiency. Given that diesel fuel is prone to preignition with early injection, gasoline-like fuel with high octane number is utilised to provide sufficient ignition delay and extend the load range. LÄS MER
5. Direct Numerical Simulations of Low Temperature Combustion in IC Engine Related Conditions
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with direct numerical simulation (DNS) of low temperature combustion in internal combustion engine related conditions. In particular, HCCI (homogeneous charge compression ignition), SACI (spark assisted ho-mogeneous charge compression ignition) and PPC (partially premixed charge combustion) were investigated to gain deeper understanding on the details of the combustion process.
