  1. 1. Averaged linear energy transfer and other beam quality descriptors inr elation to relative biological effectiveness

    Författare :Fredrik Kalholm; Niels Bassler; Iuliana Toma-Dasu; Emanuele Scifoni; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LET; RBE; LQ-model; medicinsk strålningsfysik; Medical Radiation Physics;

    Sammanfattning : In radiotherapy with protons, a constant relative biological effectiveness (RBE) of 1.1 is traditionally applied, i.e. protons are assumed to be 10\% more effective than photons in killing cells. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Radiation Oncology Data and Modelling Side Effects after Radiation Therapy

    Författare :Caroline Olsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dose and side effect data; dose-volume response; fractionation effect; LQ model; sequential two-phase radiotherapy; head and neck cancer; parotid gland; xerostomia; pelvic radiotherapy; gynecological cancer; pubic bone; pain; data integration; xerostomia;

    Sammanfattning : Although modern radiation therapy techniques have the ability to conform the dose distribution of ionizing radiation tightly around the volume to be treated, unwanted irradiation to surrounding organs remains a problem. The probability of a side effect arising in the normal tissue of a patient after radiation therapy can be modelled by sigmoid mathematical functions known as normal tissue complication probability (NTCP) models. 3. 3. The effect of spatial and temporal dose distributions on radiation-induced side effects in the lung

    Författare :Berit Wennberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : In radiotherapy (RT), the aim is to kill all malignant cells in a tumor or to render them incapable of further division and multiplication without producing damage to the normal tissues surrounding the tumor. To achieve this, both the spatial and temporal distribution of dose delivery are important for optimizing the treatment. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Radiobiological investigations of proton and light ion therapy

    Författare :Nina Tilly; Michael Scholz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Radiobiology; Monte Carlo method; Radiotherapy; high-energy instrumentation; Protons; Light ions; RBE; LET; Radiobiological models; Radiobiologi; medicinsk strålningsfysik; Medical Radiation Physics;

    Sammanfattning : During the last decade, the interest in proton and light ion beam therapy has increased considerably and several new centres are planned around the world. These particles have a large advantage due to their sharp physical dose distributions as compared to conventional radiotherapy beams. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Analysis and characterization of chemo- and radiation therapy sensitizing strategies in tumours with focus on effects of phenothiazines on DNA damage response signalling

    Författare :Katarzyna Zielinska-Chomej; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cancer is, despite rapid progress in development of new targeted therapies, still mainly treated with surgery, chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy. The last two mentioned conventional therapies often meet general obstacles such as normal cell toxicity and tumour cell resistance. LÄS MER
