  1. 1. On the influence of dopamine-related genetic variation on dopamine-related disorders

    Författare :Olle Bergman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :dopamine; neurodevelopment; amygdala; schizophrenia; Parkinson s disease; social anxiety disorder; ADHD; PITX3; LMX1A; LMX1B; BDNF; DAT; SNP; genes; genetics; BDNF;

    Sammanfattning : Rationale: Dopamine synthesizing neurons are involved in a wide variety of functions. The most prominent dopamine pathways originate in the midbrain. The development, function and survival of these dopaminergic neurons are under the influence of numerous transcription and neurotrophic factors. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The role of Lmx1a and Lmx1b in regulating mesencephalon development and dopamine neuron specification

    Författare :Qiaolin Deng; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : One of the most challenging questions in developmental biology is how neurons are specified, acquire their distinct characteristics and find their correct innervations to form functional circuits. The development of different subsets of neurons involves the expression of a program intrinsic to each cell type and the response to extrinsic environmental influences represented by soluble factors. 3. 3. Human iris characteristics as biomarkers for personality

    Författare :Mats Larsson; Håkan Stattin; Nancy Pedersen; Richard J. Rose; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Personality; iris characteristics crypts pigment dots contraction furrows; candidate genes MITF PAX6 SIX3 LMX1B FOXC1 FOXC2 PITX2 BMP4 OLFM3 MSX1 MSX2; anterior cingulate; genetic correlations; heritability; hemispheric asymmetries; approach-related behaviors; Psychology; Psykologi; Psykologi; Psychology;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation explains why behavioral genetic research can be better informed by using characteristics in the human iris as biomarkers for personality, and is divided into five parts. Part I gives an introduction to the classical twin method and an overview of the findings that have led most developmental researchers to recognize that the normal variation of personality depends on a complex interplay between genetic and environmental factors. 4. 4. Progressive models of Parkinson's disease : behavioural and neurochemical analyses

    Författare :Alexandra Alvarsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder diagnosed based on the presence of motor symptoms, including resting tremor, postural impairment, bradykinesia and rigidity. The pathological hallmarks are degeneration of midbrain dopaminergic neurons and the accumulation of inclusions containing the misfolded protein α-synuclein (termed “Lewy bodies”) throughout the nervous system. 5. 5. Regional control of cell fate determination and neurogenesis in the developing CNS

    Författare :Ulrika Marklund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The development of a functional central nervous system relies on the generation of distinct neuronal subtypes in a spatially and temporally defined order. The spatial organisation is achieved at early developmental time points when neural progenitor cells encounter fields of secreted morphogenic signalling molecules along the anterioposterior and dorsoventral axes of the embryo.
