1. Longterm performance of polyolefins in different environments including chlorinated water: antioxidant consumption and migration and polymer degradation
Sammanfattning : The long-term performance of stabilized polyolefins in different environments was studied with focus on antioxidant consumption and migration. Plaques of linear polyethylene (LPE) and branched polyethylene (BPE) were stabilized with Santonox® R (4,4'-Thiobis(6-tert-butyl-3-methylphenol)), Irganox® 1081 (2,2’-Thiobis(4-methyl-6-tertbutylphenol)), or Lowinox® 22M46 (2,2’-Methylenebis(6-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol)). 2. Modification of stable and degradable polymers by heterogeneous grafting
Sammanfattning : This thesis summarizes the investigations of the electronbeam initiated grafting of a hydrophilic monomer, acrylamide(AAm), onto three polymers; linear low density poly(ethylene)(LLDPE), poly(&-caprolactone) (PCL) and chemicallycrosslinked poly( 1,5-dioxepan-2-one) (PDXO-X). LLDPE and PCLare semicrystalline and PDXO-X is fully amorphous. LÄS MER
3. Volumetric Analysis in Mechanical Behaviour and Physical Ageing of Polymers
Sammanfattning : Volumetric changes associated with the deformation of ideal elastic solids depends on elastic constants of the solid and applied strain. Their magnitude is easily determined from the corresponding Poisson's ratios. LÄS MER
4. Surface Interactions in Powder Injection Moulding
Sammanfattning : Powder Injection Moulding (PIM) is an attractive technique for producing complex components in large quantities my means of powder technology. The process includes mixing powder with a suitable binder, usually a thermoplastic polymer. Because of the large attractive forces between small particles the powder can be agglomerated in the binder. LÄS MER
5. Studies of Elastomer Matrix Flow Mechanisms in Nonwoven Reinforced Composites
Sammanfattning : The general aim of this work was to develop a suitable technique for fabricating elastomer composites based on three-dimensional fibrous materials and to study the rheological behavior of matrix polymer in these structures with varied structural and fiber surface characteristics. A new type of mold was developed and tested for structural reaction injection molding (SRIM) of elastomer composites having polymer matrices made from a mixture of two components. LÄS MER
