  1. 1. Clinical effects of reduced iron content and fortification with bovine lactoferrin in infant formula

    Författare :Maria Björmsjö; Staffan K. Berglund; Olle Hernell; Mary Fewtrell; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; infant formula; lactoferrin; bovine lactoferrin; iron; iron supplementation; iron fortification; iron status; infant nutrition; cytokines; neurodevelopment; vaccine response; infection-related morbidity; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Breast milk, with its complex, individual and over time adapting composition, is considered the optimal source of nutrition for infants during the first months of life. Two possible contributing factors to the benefits of breastfeeding compared to infant formula-feeding are the differences in iron and lactoferrin (Lf) concentrations between breast milk and infant formula. 2. 2. Immune cells in pregnant uterine mucosa : functional properties, cellular composition and tissue organization

    Författare :Lucia Mincheva-Nilsson; Sten Hammarström; Rolf Kiessling; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; immunologically privileged site; TCR γδ cells; CD56 cells; large granular lymphocytes; immunosuppression; cytokine; interleukin; lymphoid cell cluster; intraepithelial lymphocytes; glandular epithelium; immuno electron microscopy; pregnancy; decidua; lactoferrin; lactoferrin receptor; colostrum;

    Sammanfattning : The pregnant uterus mucosa - decidua - is an "immunologically privileged" site. A semiallogeneic embryo is allowed to survive, develop, and grow while the same tissue implanted outside the uterus will be rejected. The decidua basalis, which participates in the placenta formation, is a tissue rich in lymphoid cells. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Anti-infectious and anti-inflammatory activities of lactoferrin and fragments thereof

    Författare :Liliana Håversen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Lactoferrin (LF), a major protein present in milk, mucosal secretions and secondary granules of neutrophils, has been suggested to participate in host defense at mucosal surfaces and to mediate anti-inflammatory activities. A pepsin-derived fragment of LF has been shown to contain the antibacterial domain of the protein. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Deep Candida infections. Serology for laboratory diagnosis and antifungal activity of lactoferrin derived fragments

    Författare :Nahid Kondori; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Deep Candida infections (DCI) in patients who are immunocompromised or in intensive care units present both diagnostic and therapeutic problems. Serological tests for diagnosis of invasive fungal infections are used with varying results. Moreover, long term therapies with antifungal agents have led to the emergence of resistant Candida strains. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Identification of the common eliminated region (CER1) by the microcell hybrid based 'elimination test'

    Författare :Ying Yang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Elimination test; common eliminated region 1 CER1 ; 3p21.3; microcell hybrids; tumor suppressor gene; LF lactoferrin ; LIMD1 LIM-domain containing gene 1 ; sequencing; MMCT microcell mediated chromosome transfer ; real time PM methylation;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of elimination test (Et) is to identify tumor antagonizing genes from chromosome regions that are regularly deleted in microcell hybrid (MCH) derived tumors through serial SCID mice passages. Et so far was focused on the short arm of human chromosome 3 (chr 3) due to its frequent deletions in 21 tumor types including renal cell carcinoma (RCC), small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC) and breast cancer (BRC).
