11. Novel Solid Phase Extraction and Mass Spectrometry Approaches to Multicomponent Analyses in Complex Matrices
Sammanfattning : Analysis of compounds present in complex matrices is always a challenge, which can be partly overcome by applying various sample preparation techniques prior to detection. Ideally, the extraction techniques should be as selective as possible, to minimize the concentration of interfering substances. LÄS MER
12. Developing tools for non-target analysis and digital archiving of organic urban water pollutants
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes efforts to develop robust methods for the creation and use of digital archives of environmental samples, and proposes guidelines based on the results. Digital archives are repositories that store environmental samples digitally. LÄS MER
13. The Impact of Drugs of Abuse on the Neuroproteome : Application of Immunoblotting and LC-MS-based Proteomics
Sammanfattning : Qualitative and quantitative analysis of proteins can be based either on immunological or on mass spectrometry-utilizing methods. In this thesis, different approaches of protein analysis were applied to elucidate the impact of drugs of abuse on the rat brain. Androgens have been reported to affect mood, anxiety and memory function. LÄS MER
14. Amino acids with relevance to health, climate and the environment : Development of mass spectrometric methods
Sammanfattning : Amino acids play vital roles in health, either in their native form or chemically modified. Some studies have linked certain non-proteinogenic amino acids to neurodegenerative diseases, such as in the case of β-methylaminoalanine (BMAA). LÄS MER
15. Unraveling the importance of thiol compounds on mercury speciation, uptake and transformation by the iron-reducer Geobacter sulfurreducens
Sammanfattning : The biogenic methylation of inorganic, divalent mercury (Hg(II)) by methylating microorganisms leads to formation and bioaccumulation of monomethyl mercury (MeHg) in the environment and can cause severe damage to ecosystems and human health. Diverse microorganisms carry the gene sequence hgcAB and are able to methylate Hg(II) intracellularly. LÄS MER
