1. Limit Theorems for Lattices and L-functions
Sammanfattning : This PhD thesis investigates distributional questions related to three types of objects: Unimodular lattices, symplectic lattices, and Hecke L-functions of imaginary quadratic number fields of class number 1. In Paper I, we follow Södergren and examine the asymptotic joint distribution of a collection of random variables arising as geometric attributes of the N = N(n) shortest non-zero lattice vectors (up to sign) in a random unimodular lattice in n-dimensional Euclidean space, as the dimension n tends to infinity: Normalizations of the lengths of these vectors, and normalizations of the angles between them. 3. Aquaporins in Infection and Inflammation
Sammanfattning : The ability of eukaryotic cells to change their shape and to migrate directionally is highly dependent on active volume regulation in cells building up tissues as well as in individual cells. Transmembrane fluxes of water via specialized water channels, called aquaporins (AQPs), facilitate the changes of volume and shape, which additionally require a complex interplay between the plasma membrane and the cytoskeleton. 4. Leishmania donovani lipophosphoglycan : effects on actin and phagosomal maturation
Sammanfattning : Leishmania donovani promastigotes survive intracellularly in macrophages by inhibiting phagosomal maturation. This ability is conferred by surface lipophosphoglycan (LPG), which is transferred to the host-cell plasma and phagosomal membranes during phagocytosis. LÄS MER
5. Markers of hemodynamic state and heart failure as predictors for outcome in cardiac surgery : with special reference to mixed venous oxygen saturation and natriuretic peptides
Sammanfattning : Postoperative heart failure or low cardiac output syndrome is the major cause for morbidity and mortality in cardiac surgery. Unfortunately commonly used methods to assess hemodynamic state and heart failure are not well documented with regard to outcome. LÄS MER
