  1. 1. Convergence analysis of domain decomposition methods : Nonlinear elliptic and linear parabolic equations

    Författare :Emil Engström; Matematik LTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nonoverlapping domain decomposition; Steklov--Poincaré operator; Robin--Robin method; Convergence; Nonlinear elliptic equation; Space-time;

    Sammanfattning : Domain decomposition methods are widely used tools for solving partial differential equations in parallel. However, despite their long history, there is a lack of rigorous convergence theory for equations with non-symmetric differential operators. This includes both nonlinear elliptic equations and linear parabolic equations. LÄS MER

  2. 2. On linear graph invariants related to Ramsey and edge numbers : or how I learned to stop worrying and love the alien invasion

    Författare :Oliver Krüger; Jörgen Backelin; Alexander Engström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ramsey number; edge number; minimal Ramsey graph; independence number; clique number; Turán s theorem; crochet pattern; H13-pattern; linear graph invariant; triangle-free graph; Mathematics; matematik;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis we study the Ramsey numbers, R(l,k), the edge numbers, e(l,k;n) and graphs that are related to these. The edge number e(l,k;n) may be defined as the least natural number m for which all graphs on n vertices and less than m edges either contains a complete subgraph of size l or an independent set of size k. 3. 3. Glutamate Turnover and Energy Metabolism in Brain Injury : Clinical and Experimental Studies

    Författare :Carolina Samuelsson; Elisabeth Ronne-Engström; Lars Hillered; Eva Kumlien; Carl-Henrik Nordström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Neurosciences; glutamate; glutamine; lactate; pyruvate; microdialysis; GLT-1; energy metabolism; intracranial pressure; cerebral perfusion pressure; subarachnoid hemorrhage; ischemia; epilepsy; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : During brain activity neurons release the major excitatory transmitter glutamate, which is taken up by astrocytes and converted to glutamine. Glutamine returns to neurons for re-conversion to glutamate. This glutamate-glutamine cycle is energy demanding. LÄS MER

  4. 4. On the Impact of Bariatric Surgery on Glucose Homeostasis

    Författare :Niclas Abrahamsson; Britt Eden Engström; Jan Eriksson; Magnus Sundbom; Neil Gerard Docherty; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hypoglycaemia; Gastric Bypass surgery; Biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch DS ; NT-ProBNP; Continuous glucose measuring system CGMS ; GLP-1-analog; glucose variability; MAGE; CONGA; counter regulation; incretin; Heart Rate Variability; Endocrinology and Diabetology; Endokrinologi och Diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : Obesity has grown to epidemic proportions, and in lack of efficient life-style and medical treatments, the bariatric surgeries are performed in rising numbers. The most common surgery is the Gastric Bypass (GBP) surgery, with the Biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch (DS) as an option for the most extreme cases with a BMI>50 kg/m2. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Subarachnoid haemorrhage : clinical and epidemiological studies

    Författare :Cecilia Lindgren; Silvana Naredi; Magnus Hultin; Lars-Owe Koskinen; Elisabeth Ronne-Engström; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Subarachnoid haemorrhage; ADMA; Cortisol; EEG; inflammation; epidemiology; endothelium; arginine; anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology; neurokirurgi; Neurosurgery; epidemiologi; Epidemiology;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) is a severe stroke that in 85% of all cases is caused by the rupture of a cerebral aneurysm. The median age at onset is 50-55 years and the overall mortality is approximately 45%.Sufficient cortisol levels are important for survival. LÄS MER
