    Sammanfattning : In the meeting between women from office- and library work and the computer technology and organizational changes, different actions were found. The purpose of the thesis is to analyse this meeting to consider the situation of the employed when computer technology and new organization are implemented, to discuss the importance of prior social and working life with regard to the understanding of the meeting and to address the working conditions in the 1980s with special attention to women.     Sammanfattning : Abstract Aims: To analyse the influence of migration status (country of birth/ethnicity), accultura-tion, socio-economic and psychosocial factors on self-reported psychiatric illness, suicide attempt, total mortality and violent death. Methods: Three main data sources were used: suicide attempts in the catchment area of Lund University Hospital (PASIS) during 1991–94; the Swedish Survey of Living Conditions (ULF) 1979–1985 (n=39,155) and 1986–93 (n=36,890); the Swedish National Survey of Immigrants (born in Iran, Chile, Turkey, Kurdistan or Poland) from 1996 (n=1,980). Detta utgör de huvudsakliga frågeställningarna i den här avhandlingen. Utgångspunkten för den kvalitativa studie som genomförs tas i en regional strukturomvandling som påverkar kvinnornas lokala arbetsmarknad och leder till att en politisk satsning på kvinnors företagande i form av en starta-eget kurs initieras.
