  1. 6. The colour of climate : A study of raised bogs in south-central Sweden

    Författare :Anders Borgmark; Stefan Wastegård; Ann-Marie Robertsson; Bas van Geel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Holocene; south-central Sweden; peat humification; bog hydrology; climate variation; spectral analysis; Quaternary geology; Kvartärgeologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on responses in raised bogs to changes in the effective humidity during the Holocene. Raised bogs are terrestrial deposits that can provide contiguous records of past climate changes. Information on and knowledge about past changes in climate is crucial for our understanding of natural climate variability. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Urbanised Nature in the Past : Site formation and Environmental Developement in Two Swedish Towns, AD 1200-1800

    Författare :Jens Heimdahl; Ann-Marie Robertsson; Jane Sidell; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Urban stratigraphy; environmental reconstruction; site formation; geoarchaeology; dark earth; macrofossil analysis; Quaternary geology; Kvartärgeologi;

    Sammanfattning : In order to explore site formations and reconstruct environmental development in Medieval and Post-Medieval towns, urban occupational strata in Norrköping and Karlstad were studied according to biostratigraphy, sedimentology and pedology. New field procedures including continuous pilot sampling, parallel archaeological and geological stratigraphic interpretation, and on-site analysis of plant macrofossils were developed and applied at archaeological excavations in both towns. 3. 8. Weichselian glaciations in the middle Notec River region, northwest Poland

    Författare :Gert Pettersson; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quaternary Geology; Kvartärgeologi; Geology; Geologi; Vistulian; Weichselian; Lithostratigraphy; Poland; Chodziez; Clast lithology; Clast fabrics; Deglaciation; Ice stream; Sedimentology; Sedimentologi; geomorphology; klimatologi; geomorfologi; climatology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents results of studies on the ice flow pattern and ice movement mechanism during the Weichselian glaciations in the middle Notec River area, NW Poland. A new lithostratigraphy of the study area has been established, based on correlation of stratigraphical position, clast lithology, fabrics and grain size composition of till units. LÄS MER

  4. 9. The sensitivity of Swedish alpine lakes to hydro-climatic changes during the Late Holocene

    Författare :Annika Berntsson; Gunhild Rosqvist; Peter G. Langdon; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; alpine lake sediments; temperature reconstruction; precipitation; catchment erosion; chironomids; oxygen isotopes; XRF core scanning; geomorphology; grain size analysis; kvartärgeologi; Quaternary Geology;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis objective is to use lake sediments to investigate the relationships between chironomids, as proxy for temperature, and δ18O and minerogenic in-wash, as precipitation proxies, in northern Sweden during the Late Holocene. Three lakes along a N–S transect in the Scandes were studied using biological, geochemical and physical sediment properties, together with numerical methods. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Palaeoglaciology of the northeastern Tibetan Plateau

    Författare :Jakob Heyman; Arjen P Stroeven; Clas Hättestrand; Helena Alexanderson; Frank Lehmkuhl; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tibetan Plateau; palaeoglaciology; Physical geography; Naturgeografi; Quaternary geology; Kvartärgeologi; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : This study concerns the palaeoglaciation of the northeastern Tibetan Plateau, with emphasis on the Bayan Har Shan (Shan = Mountain) in the headwaters of Huang He (Yellow River). To reconstruct past glacier development multiple techniques, including remote sensing, field investigations, cosmogenic exposure dating, and numerical modelling have been employed. LÄS MER
