  1. 1. Mathematical Modelling of Light Scattering in Paper and Print

    Författare :Per Edström; Mårten Gulliksson; Inge Söderkvist; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mathematical modeling; radiative transfer; solution method; numerical stability; speed; light scattering; light absorption; Kubelka-Munk; errors; reflectance calculations; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK;

    Sammanfattning : A problem formulation and a solution method are outlined for the radiative transfer problem in vertically inhomogeneous scattering and absorbing media, using discrete ordinate model geometry. The treatment spans from the physical problem via a continuous formulation, a discretization and a numerical analysis, to an implementation with performance evaluation and application to real-world problems. 2. 2. Whiteness and Fluorescence in Layered Paper and Board : Perception and Optical Modelling

    Författare :Ludovic Gustafsson Coppel; Per Edström; Caisa Johansson; Markku Hauta-Kasari; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Whiteness; Perception; Colour Appearance Modelling; Paper Optics; Light Scattering; Fluorescence; Lateral Light Scattering; White-Top Mottle; Kubelka-Munk; Radiative Transfer;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is about modelling and predicting the perceived whiteness of plain paper from the paper composition, including fluorescent whitening agents. This involves psychophysical modelling of perceived whiteness from measurable light reflectance properties, and physical modelling of light scattering and fluorescence from the paper composition. 4. 4. Mathematical modeling and numerical tools for simulation and design of light scattering in paper and print

    Författare :Per Edström; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mathematical modeling; radiative transfer; integro-differential equations; inverse problems; parameter estimation; solution method; numerical performance; light scattering; paper industry applications; Kubelka-Munk; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK;

    Sammanfattning : This work starts with a real industrial problem - the perceived need for a moredetailed and more accurate model for light scattering in paper and print than theKubelka‐Munk model of today. A careful analysis transfers this problem into aphysical description of the phenomena involved. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Lifetime Surface Phosphor Thermometry - Technique Developments, Sources of Error, and Applications

    Författare :Henrik Feuk; Förbränningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phosphor thermometry; thermographic phosphors; decay time; lifetime; laser-induced phosphorescence; thermometry; high temperature; surface thermometry; maximum entropy method; Kubelka-Munk; Fysicumarkivet A:2023:Feuk;

    Sammanfattning : Temperature is not only a fundamental aspect of everyday life, but it is also an essential metric for thermal conversion systems concerning efficiency, emissions, and component lifetime estimation. Therefore, a vast range of different methods to measure temperature has been developed. LÄS MER
