  1. 1. Dealing with Digits : Arithmetic, Memory and Phonology in Deaf Signers

    Författare :Josefine Andin; Mary Rudner; Jerker Rönnberg; Örjan Dahlström; Lars Nyberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adult deaf signers; phonology; arithmetic; short-term memory; working memory; neuro imaging; Vuxna teckenspråkiga döva; fonologi; aritmetik; korttidsminne; arbetsminne; hjärnavbildning;

    Sammanfattning : Deafness has been associated with poor abilities to deal with digits in the context of arithmetic and memory, and language modality-specific differences in the phonological similarity of digits have been shown to influence short-term memory (STM). Therefore, the overall aim of the present thesis was to find out whether language modality-specific differences in phonological processing between sign and speech can explain why deaf signers perform at lower levels than hearing peers when dealing with digits. 2. 2. Modalities of Mind : Modality-specific and nonmodality-specific aspects of working memory for sign and speech

    Författare :Mary Rudner; Jerker Rönnberg; Alan Baddeley; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cognition; sign language; working memory; fMRI; PET; disability research; Korttidsminne; teckenspråk; Cognitive science; Kognitionsvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Language processing is underpinned by working memory and while working memory for signed languages has been shown to display some of the characteristics of working memory for speech-based languages, there are a range of anomalous effects related to the inherently visuospatial modality of signed languages. On the basis of these effects, four research questions were addressed in a series of studies:1. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Flower Cues for Hawkmoths: Colour, Place and Odour

    Författare :Anna Balkenius; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Zoologi; Zoology; olfaction; vision; learning; multimodal; Macroglossum stellatarum; Hawkmoth; Deilephila elpenor;

    Sammanfattning : Flowers use different cues to attract pollinators including colour and odour. How do hawkmoths use these cues to find the flowers? This question was investigated in two species of hawkmoth, the diurnal species, Macroglossum stellatarum, and the nocturnal species, Deilephila elpenor. Both species have colour vision and D. 4. 4. Depot neuroleptic maintenance treatment: clinical, pharmacological and neuropsychological aspects

    Författare :Eva Tuninger; Lund Psykiatri; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; clinical psychology; Psychiatry; laterality.; chronic psychosis; schizophrenia; outcome; maintenance treatment; follow-up; longitudinal; neuropsychology; SPECT; auditory hallucinations; dopamine receptor occupancy; psychosomatics; Psykiatri; klinisk psykologi; psykosomatik;

    Sammanfattning : Neuroleptic maintenance treatment is effective to reduce the risk of further episodes of schizophrenia and other chronic psychoses, except affective. Lack of insight often lead to poor compliance to the prescripted medication. Then, neuroleptics might be given as depot injections. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Neurogenesis in the adult brain from ballyhoo to sobriety

    Författare :Helena Frielingsdorf; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; Neurologi; neurophysiology; neuropsychology; Neurology; Nerve growth factor; acetylcholine; GABA; learning; hippocampus; Neurogenesis; dopamine; substantia nigra;

    Sammanfattning : New neurons are spontaneously generated in two regions of the adult brain, the hippocampus and the subventricular zone/olfactory bulb. The objective of this thesis was to study potential implications for adult neurogenesis in Alzheimer's (AD) and Parkinson's diseases (PD). LÄS MER
