1. Making sense of sufficiency : Entries, practices and politics
Sammanfattning : The affluent groups and societies in the world have made material consumption part of their lifestyle. Today, overconsumption has come to constitute an acute environmental problem, both with regards to the natural resources needed to satisfy our ever-growing wants, and to the mountains of waste it leaves behind. 2. Dietary change for sustainable food systems: Effects on climate, land use and health
Sammanfattning : Food production and consumption are key drivers of environmental pressures and essential factors in the promotion and maintenance of health. Production of food occupies more than 1/3 of global land areas and is estimated to be responsible for some 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions. LÄS MER
3. Sustainable nutrition: Opportunities, risks and uncertainties from environmental and health perspectives
Sammanfattning : Food production and consumption are key drivers of environmental pressures and are essential factors in the promotion and maintenance of health. Production of food occupies more than one third of global land areas and is estimated to be responsible for some 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions. LÄS MER
4. To leak or not to leak? : Land‐Use Displacement and Carbon Leakage from Forest Conservation
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the question how emissions from land‐use displacement can be assessed and accounted for, using the example of carbon‐leakage accounting in the planned UNFCCC mechanism on ‘Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation’ (REDD). REDD serves here as example of an international forest conservation policy that might be effective locally but could lead to displacement of deforestation to other countries. LÄS MER
5. Sustainable consumption for policymakers: measuring, learning and acting
Sammanfattning : Current patterns and levels of consumption are a key driver of unsustainable resource use and pollution, which contributes to global environmental degradation. Rapid reductions in environmental pressures are required to avoid irreversible loss of fragile ecosystems and social and economic crises. Consumption must become sustainable. LÄS MER
