6. Energy savings for petroleum processing : Using mathematical models, optimal control and diagnostics
Sammanfattning : Petroleum products are widely used as an energy supply, and the total production capacity of petroleum refineries is quite high. In this thesis, an energy intensive refinery process, hydroprocessing, is selected and evaluated in terms of its energy loss contributors. Digital solutions are discussed and demonstrated to reduce losses. LÄS MER
7. Preliminary Design Investigations for the Selection of Optimum Reaction Degree for 1st Stage of a High Pressure Gas Turbine
Sammanfattning : One-dimensional (1D) turbine design calculation phase requires a handful of input data and choice of design parameters to provide the blade flow path geometry along with the flow kinematics and thermodynamics properties at the blade mid-span. The choice of important aerodynamics design parameters namely reaction degree, nozzle guide vane NGV exit flow angle or flow coefficient and stage loading defines the mid-span flow velocity triangles. 8. Development of a Novel Gas Turbine Simulator for Hybrid Solar-Brayton Systems
Sammanfattning : Hybrid solar-Brayton systems utilize both solar thermal energy and supplementary renewable fuels to provide controllable and dispatchable power output, which renders them a promising way to meet the growing energy demand and reduce the carbon footprints. However, existing testing facilities for key components in such hybrid systems often fail to accomplish the testing requirements, hence impeding the improvement of the renewable energy share and the overall efficiency. 9. Numerical Modelling of Subcooled Nucleate Boiling for Thermal Management Solutions Using OpenFOAM
Sammanfattning : Two-phase cooling solutions employing subcooled nucleate boiling flows e.g. thermosyphons, have gained a special interest during the last few decades. This interest stems from their enhanced ability to remove extremely high heat fluxes, while keeping a uniform surface temperature. LÄS MER
10. On a learning system for industrial automation : Model-based control and diagnostics for decision support
Sammanfattning : Access to energy is fundamental to economic and technological advancement. Hence, the more the world develops, the greater the demand for energy becomes. Evidently, the production and consumption of energy alone account for more than 80% of global anthropogenic greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. LÄS MER
