  1. 1. The application of the Critical Power construct to endurance exercise

    Författare :Kerry McGawley; Helen Carter; Jeanne Dekerle; Gary Brickley; Jo Doust; Harry Rossiter; University of Brighton; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Critical power (CP) is a theoretical construct reflecting the highest work rate that can be maintained by continuous aerobic energy resynthesis for an infinite period of time.  In practice, however, the CP estimate derived from mathematical modelling usually leads to exhaustion within 1 h. 2. 2. Physiological and biomechanical aspects of rifle carriage during biathlon skiing

    Författare :Malin Jonsson Kårström; Marko Laaksonen; Kerry McGawley; Guillaume Millet; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; 3D-measurement; anaerobic energy contribution; crosscountry skiing; kinematics; lactate threshold; load carriage; oxygen uptake; performance; sex differences; sub-techniques; training;

    Sammanfattning : Biathlon is an endurance-based winter sport that combines crosscountry (XC) skiing with rifle marksmanship. While skiing, biathletes carry the rifle (weighing ≥ 3.5 kg) on their backs. However, research regarding the effects of rifle carriage in biathlon is lacking. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Monitoring Health Problems and Training to Support Performance in Competitive Cross-Country Ski Athletes

    Sammanfattning : Competitive cross-country (XC) ski athletes (defined hereafter as XC skiers and biathletes combined) are vulnerable to developing various health-related symptoms and conditions due to several factors, such as high physiological and psychological demands, extreme competition and training environments, high training loads, demanding competition schedules, and frequent travel. On initiating this work, we (the author and supervisory team) were approached by the Swedish Ski Association (SSF) and the Swedish Biathlon Federation (SSSF) to investigate the relationships between training, racing, and health problems, with a specific focus on illnesses (rather than injuries), and an ultimate goal of improving future support practices and athletic performance.
