11. Characterising Weak Interactions in Solution. : An NMR Spectroscopic Approach
Sammanfattning : Detecting and characterising weak interactions in dilute solutions is challenging. This thesis focusses on the development of a new NMR spectroscopic strategy to do so, whilst also investigates a newly proposed type of weak interaction in solution with currently available NMR techniques. 12. Regenerable Organochalcogen Antioxidants : An Explorative Study
Sammanfattning : Antioxidants are widely used to protect organic materials from damages caused by autoxidation, an oxidation process that occurs under normal aerobic conditions. In this thesis, novel multifunctional organoselenium and organotellurium antioxidants were designed, synthesized, and evaluated in search for compounds with better radical-trapping capacity, regenerability, and hydroperoxide-decomposing ability. 13. Exploring Novel Catalytic Chalcogenide Antioxidants
Sammanfattning : This thesis is concerned with the synthesis and evaluation of regenerable chalcogen containing antioxidants. Variously substituted 2,3-dihydrobenzo[b]selenophene-5-ol antioxidants were evaluated in order to gain information about structure/reactivity-relationships. LÄS MER
14. Peptide Conjugates as Useful Molecular Tools
Sammanfattning : The conjugation of a small organic molecule to synthetic polypeptides from a designed set has been shown to give rise to binders with high affinity and selectivity for the phosphorylated model proteins α-casein and β-casein but not for ovoalbumin. The small organic molecule that was used for this purpose is comprised of two di-(2-picolyl)amine groups assembled on a dimethylphenyl scaffold, and is capable of complexing two Zn2+ ions to form chelates that bind the phosphate ion. 15. Insights into Covalent Chemistry for the Development of Biomaterials
Sammanfattning : Covalent cross-linking chemistry is currently exploited in the preparation of biomaterial for biomedical applications. Choice of these chemistries for the preparation of biomaterials and bioconjugates strongly influences the biological output of these materials. LÄS MER
