    Sammanfattning : How to generate and use electricity in a more efficient way is a major challenge for humankind. In this context, permanent magnets play an important role within a very broad range of electric power applications. The strongest magnets used today are mainly based on alloys that contain rare-earth metals, which are neither economical nor sustainable. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Carbothermal synthesis of nano-structured metal, carbides and nitrides, using solution processed precursors; from precursor to product

    Författare :Sarmad Naim Katea; Gunnar Westin; Hilmar Vidarsson; Sanjay Mathur; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes how solution chemical based carbothermal syntheses can be used for the synthesis of nanostructured zirconium carbide and nitride nanophase powders as well as a nickel-metal coating on NbC for use as a sintering agent. The focus is on the development of novel synthesis routes using atomic or small nanoscale level mixing of the metal oxide and carbon source in the starting precursors, enabling the use of lower synthesis temperatures and non-agglomerated nanosized powders. 5. 10. Designing multicomponent alloy coatings for corrosion protection

    Författare :León Zendejas Medina; Ulf Jansson; Leif Nyholm; Zoe Barber; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; corrosion; thin films; coatings; magnetron sputtering; high entropy alloy; percolation theory; mechanical tests; Chemistry with specialization in Inorganic Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot oorganisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the design of metallic coatings for corrosion protection. The subject of the study was the new class of materials multicomponent alloys (MCAs, also known as high entropy alloys). They consist of near-equal concentrations of many (four or more) metals and are often reported to form a single phase with a simple crystal structure. LÄS MER
