  1. 1. Hematopoiesis, Kazal Inhibitors and Crustins in a Crustacean

    Författare :Young-A Kim; Kenneth Soderhall; Irene Soderhall; Shun-ichiro Kawabata; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Biochemistry; innate immunity; cytokine; hematopoietic tissue; ATP synthase β subunit; Kazal; antibacterial peptides; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Hemocytes are important as storage and producers of proteins of the innate immune defence, as well as actors of the cellular immune response. Therefore the hematopoietic process is critical for survival of most invertebrates. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Immune defense reactions in freshwater crayfish : Cellular components

    Författare :Charlotta Ekblom; Irene Söderhäll; Kallaya Sritunyalucksana-Dangtip; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; crustaceans; hemocytes; immunity; crayfish; proteomics; transcriptomics; Biology with specialization in Comparative Physiology; Biologi med inriktning mot jämförande fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The freshwater signal crayfish, Pacifastacus leniusculus, is a well-established model for studying the immune system of invertebrates. Many important discoveries have been made in this species, among others related to the clotting reaction, hematopoiesis, the prophenoloxidase activating system, the functions of crustacean immune cells, and pathogen recognition. 3. 3. Role of estrogen receptor beta in epithelia lacking estrogen receptor alpha expression

    Författare :Andrea Morani; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Estrogen Receptors; Extracellular Matrix; Prostate Cancer; Lung Diseases; Ovarian Follicle;

    Sammanfattning : Estrogens influence the physiology of many organs by activation of the nuclear receptors ERalpha and ERbeta. The epithelium of ventral prostate, ovarian granulosa cells and lung, are ERalpha-negative but express high levels of ERbeta. This thesis focuses on the role played by ERbeta in ERalpha-negative epithelium. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Kallikrein-related peptidases in human epidermis : studies on activity, regulation, and function

    Författare :Kristina Stefansson; Torbjörn Egelrud; Maria Brattsand; Mona Ståhle; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; desquamation; epidermis; stratum corneum; kallikrein-related peptidase; KLK; serine protease inhibitors; Dermatology and venerology; Dermatologi och venerologi;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction. The outermost layer of the epidermis, the stratum corneum (SC), plays a fundamental role in our defense against microorganisms, chemicals, and dehydration. The SC is composed of tightly packed keratinized skin cells, corneocytes. For a functioning skin it is essential that corneocytes are constantly shed (desquamated). LÄS MER
