  1. 1. Immunological responses in genital HPV infections and etiology of cervical cancer

    Författare :Lisen Arnheim; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :HPV; CIN; cervical cancer; antibodies; KIRs; CXCL8; IFN-gamma; Chlamydia trachomatis;

    Sammanfattning : Cervical cancer is one of the most common forms of cancers in women. Every year approximately 450,000 women are diagnosed worldwide and 200,000 die. The sexually transmitted oncogenic human papillomavirus (HPV) types are established as the major etiological agents of cancer of the cervix. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Formation of the inhibitory KIR repertoire in human natural killer cells

    Författare :Sandra Andersson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Natural killer (NK) cells are lymphocytes of the innate immune system that are able to secrete cytokines and detect virus infected and transformed cells. Contrary to T cells, NK cells recognize targets that lack expression of MHC class I molecules at the cell surface, a phenomenon referred to as “missing self” recognition. LÄS MER

  3. 3. A study on the role of genes of innate immunity in type 1 diabetes

    Författare :Saikiran K Sedimbi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is caused by autoimmune destruction of insulin-producing pancreatic beta-cells. It is a polygenic disease in which maximal genetic susceptibility is conferred by the presence of MHC class II genes. LÄS MER

  4. 4. A study of biomarker analysis in association with type 1 diabetes and their shared features in rheumatoid arthritis

    Författare :Chengjun Sun; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is mediated by abnormal immune system (autoimmunity) that targeting specifically to self insulin-producing cells (β-cells). People with T1D require treatments based on life-long insulin substitution. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The ontogeny and regulation of human natural killer cells

    Författare :Martin A Ivarsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Natural Killer (NK) cells are members of the innate lymphoid cell (ILC) family and take part in the detection and eradication of virus-infected and transformed cells. In this thesis, together with my colleagues I have investigated how NK cells and other ILCs develop and function during human fetal development, how NK cells are functionally regulated (educated) via the activating receptor KIR2DS1, and how NK cells in our body are affected during the early phase of an acute viral infection.
