1. Constraints for Membership in Formal Languages under Systematic Search and Stochastic Local Search
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on constraints for membership in formal languages under both the systematic search and stochastic local search approaches to constraint programming (CP). Such constraints are very useful in CP for the following three reasons: They provide a powerful tool for user-level extensibility of CP languages. LÄS MER
2. Electromagnetic simulation and design of etched diffraction grating demultiplexers
Sammanfattning : Among various planar lightwave circuits for multiplexing/demultiplexing in an optical communication system, etched diffraction gratings (EDGs) have shown great potential due to their compactness and high spectral finesse. Conventional numerical methods for grating simulation cannot be used to simulate an EDG demultiplexer of large size (in terms of the wavelength). LÄS MER
3. A multi-omics approach to uncover estrogen receptor (ER) and activator protein 1 (AP-1) signaling networks in breast cancer
Sammanfattning : Estrogen receptor (ER) binds to DNA indirectly through other transcription factors (e.g. AP-1) to modulate gene expression, which is a tethering mechanism. The ER/AP-1 crosstalk plays an important role in tamoxifen therapy resistance. LÄS MER
4. The Taizhou Movement : Being Mindful in Sixteenth Century China
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to define and analyze the religious ideas, praxis and organizations of the Taizhou movement using the earliest sources from the Ming dynasty. The Taizhou movement originated with a salt merchant named Wang Gen (1483–1541), who became a disciple of the well-known Neo-Confucian philosopher Wang Yangming (1472–1529). LÄS MER
5. A Study of Smooth Functions and Differential Equations on Fractals
Sammanfattning : In 1989 Jun Kigami made an analytic construction of a Laplacian on the Sierpiński gasket, a construction that he extended to post critically finite fractals. Since then, this field has evolved into a proper theory of analysis on fractals. The new results obtained in this thesis are all in the setting of Kigami's theory. LÄS MER
