6. Effects of aperiodic order for Josephson junction arrays and discrete breathers
Sammanfattning : Effects of the combination of nonlinearities and aperiodic order is studied in this thesis. The nonlinear systems considered are Josephson junction arrays (JJA) and Fermi-Pasta-Ulam (FPU) lattices. Both systems are discrete and one-dimensional. The traveling waves in a JJA are solitons, i. 7. Superradiant THz wave emission from arrays of Josephson junctions
Sammanfattning : High-power, continuous-wave, compact and tunable THz sources are needed for a large variety of applications. Development of power-efficient sources of electromagnetic radiation in the 0.1-10 THz range is a difficult technological problem, known as the “THz gap. LÄS MER
8. Three-wave mixing in Josephson travelling-wave parametric amplifiers
Sammanfattning : This work explores possibilities of building a wide-band, quantum-limited low-noise amplifier by means of three-wave mixing (3WM) in different kinds of Josephson travelling-wave parametric amplifiers (TWPAs). We extend the theory of the continuous three-mode model to include any number of up-converted modes in the small frequency limit where the frequency dispersion is close to linear. LÄS MER
9. Magnesium Diboride (MgB2) and Ca-doped YBa2Cu3O7-? : Thin Films and Devices. Fabrication and Characterization
Sammanfattning : Magnesium diboride (MgB2) is a superconductor with an exceptionally high transition temperature, Tc, of 39 K. This work describes deposition of high quality and superconducting films of MgB2 for electronic applications. Experiments on Ca-doped YBa2Cu3O7-? films and fabrication of bicrystal Josephson junctions are also described. LÄS MER
10. Studies on hybrid superconducting junctions
Sammanfattning : In the field of nanoelectronics, one seeks to combine quantum mechanical effects with macroscopic entities such as currents in order to find new ways of storing and manipulating information. One possibility to accomplish this is to use the quantum correlations found in superconductors. LÄS MER
