6. Understanding the mechanisms behind atom transfer radical polymerization : exploring the limit of control
Sammanfattning : Atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) is one of the most commonly employed techniques for controlled radical polymerization. ATRP has great potential for the development of new materials due to the ability to control molecular weight and polymer architecture. LÄS MER
7. Short-Pulse Photofragmentation and Fluorescence-based Diagnostics - Development and Applications
Sammanfattning : The work presented in the thesis covers the use of laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) and photofragmentation laser-induced fluorescence (PFLIF) with short laser pulses to determine species concentrations in different combustion environments. To attain quantitative species concentrations using LIF investigations of the influence of collisional quenching on the fluorescence signal strength is of vital importance, which can be done by measuring the fluorescence lifetime. 8. Protein aggregation: Computational modeling and Monte Carlo algorithm development
Sammanfattning : Although organisms have evolved sophisticated cellular mechanisms for regulating their various protein networks, proteins sometimes start to clump together in an uncontrolled way. The aggregation of proteins has been associated with a range of serious diseases. LÄS MER
9. Towards an efficient use of infrastructure and the built environment : Essays in transport and housing economics
Sammanfattning : All four papers in the thesis share a common theme: how to achieve an efficient use of infrastructure and the built environment. In the presence of externalities, pricing according to the (short-run) marginal cost is one answer on how this can be achieved and the first two papers estimates parts of the marginal cost of traffic. 10. Luminosity Measurements and Two-Photon Physics with the DELPHI VSAT at LEP
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes analysis of data from the DELPHI Very Small Angle Tagger (VSAT) calorimeter at LEP1. The VSAT consists of four Silicon-Tungsten calorimeter modules symmetrically positioned 7.7 meters away from the interaction point. LÄS MER
