1. Climate change impacts upon plants and soils along environmental gradients : insights from Swedish subarctic tundra and boreal forests
Sammanfattning : Climate change is altering ecosystems worldwide. Despite advances in our understanding of the effects of increasing temperature, little is known about how increased temperatures will impact upon plants and soils across environmental gradients. LÄS MER
2. Empirical Essays on Public Policies : Social Insurances, Safety Nets, and Health Care
Sammanfattning : Screening Efficiency in Sickness Insurance: Evidence from a Spell Limit ReformI estimate the effects of the removal of a limit on sick leave spells in the Swedish Sickness Insurance program, on labor market outcomes and sick leave. The removal of the spell limit led to longer sick leave spells. LÄS MER
3. Externalities and Coordination Failures
Sammanfattning : Peer Effects in Electric Car Adoption: Evidence from SwedenI study peer effects in the diffusion of electric cars in Sweden. To identify peer effects, I use a shift-share IV design that links the renewal of elapsing individual-level, car leasing contracts (i.e., shift) with the propensity to acquire an electric car based on individual traits (i. 4. Bifurcations and Exchange of Stability with Density Dependence in a Coinfection Model and an Age-structured Population Model
Sammanfattning : In nature many pathogens and in particular strains of pathogens with negative effects on species coexists. This is for simplicity often ignored in many epidemiological models. It is however still of interest to get a deeper understanding how this coexistence affects the dynamics of the disease. LÄS MER
5. A Spectroscopic Study of Interfacial Films: Internal Structuring, Stability, and Hydration
Sammanfattning : Monolayers of molecules are capable of completely changing the nature of surfaces and their interactions with the surroundings despite their almost negligible thickness. In the research presented in this doctoral thesis the surface specific technique Vibrational Sum Frequency Spectroscopy (VSFS) was combined with the Langmuir trough to investigate various manifestations of monolayers, such as biomimetic membranes, mono methyl branched long chain fatty acids in contact with air, and hydrophobic silane monolayers in contact with water.
