  1. 1. A new storm over the Naqab : The temporality of space in Israeli settler colonialism

    Författare :Johanna Adolfsson; Anders Wästfelt; Ulf Jansson; Irus Braverman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Settler colonial studies; posthumanism; political ecology; transhumance; frontier; Negev Naqab; Israel Palestine; geografi med kulturgeografisk inriktning; Geography with Emphasis on Human Geography;

    Sammanfattning : How can a posthumanist conceptualization of landscape, one that embraces temporality and practice, help us to better understand contemporary settler colonialism? This thesis explores this proposition through its analyses of the desire of the Israeli state to ‘settle’ the Naqab. The Naqab, an area located in the south of modern-day Israel and within its borders, is continuously narrated as under threat of being lost to the Palestinian Bedouins. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Ice, wood and rocks : regulating elements in riverine ecosystems

    Författare :Johanna Engström; Christer Nilsson; Roland Jansson; James Helfield; Tenna Riis; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :riparian zone; timber floating; river restoration; cut-off side channels; hydrochory; large wood; anchor ice; fish;

    Sammanfattning : Riparian ecosystems are of great importance in the landscape, connecting landscape elements longitudinally and laterally and often encompassing sharp environmental gradients in ecological processes and communities. They are influenced by fluvial disturbances such as flooding, erosion and sediment deposition, which create dynamic and spatially heterogeneous habitats that support a high diversity of species. 3. 3. Constructing a timetable of autumn senescence in aspen

    Författare :Johanna Keskitalo; Stefan Jansson; Howard Thomas; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Populus tremula; autumn senescence; senescence-associated genes; cellular timetable; transcriptional timetable; cDNA microarrays; EST sequencing; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : During the development and lifecycle of multicellular organisms, cells have to die, and this occurs by a process called programmed cell death or PCD, which can be separated from necrosis or accidental cell death (Pennell and Lamb, 1997). Senescence is the terminal phase in the development of an organism, organ, tissue or cell, where nutrients are remobilized from the senescing parts of the plant into other parts, and the cells of the senescing organ or tissue undergo PCD if the process is not reversed in time. 4. 4. Synthesis and Characterization of 2D Nanocrystals and Thin Films of Transition Metal Carbides (MXenes)

    Författare :Joseph Halim; Michael Barsoum; Lars Hultman; Yury Gogotsi; Per Eklund; Johanna Rosén; Jun Lu; Martin Magnuson; Ulf Jansson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Two dimensional (2D) materials have received growing interest because of their unique properties compared to their bulk counterparts. Graphene is the archetype 2D solid, but other materials beyond graphene, such as MoS2 and BN have become potential candidates for several applications. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Blood Flow Regulation and Inflammatory Response in Experimental Models of Diabetes

    Författare :Ulrika Pettersson; Mia Phillipson; Leif Jansson; Johanna Henriksnäs; Mikael Rydén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Islets; beta-cells; pancreas; inflammation; obesity; adipose tissue; rats; mice; leukocytes; beta3-adrenoceptors; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes is caused by defect pancreatic islet β-cells together with peripheral insulin resistance. The disease is often accompanied by obesity with associated low-grade visceral adipose tissue inflammation, which contributes to insulin resistance. LÄS MER
