2. Long-term effects of adjuvant tamoxifen treatment on cardiovascular disease and cancer
Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis were to investigate the long-term effects of adjuvant tamoxifen treatment on breast cancer recurrence and mortality, cardiovascular disease, and the incidence of secondary cancer.Between 1982 and 1992, postmenopausal patients with early stage breast cancer were included in a randomized clinical study of 2 or 5 years of postoperative tamoxifen therapy. 3. Inertia and practice change related to greenhouse gas reduction : Essays on institutional entrepreneurship and translation in Swedish agri-food
Sammanfattning : To avoid dangerous climate change a massive reduction in greenhouse gas emissions is required in a relative short time span. However, as development is moving in the wrong direction, there appears to be great inertia in changing activities. LÄS MER
4. Physics at the High-Energy Frontier : Phenomenological Studies of Charged Higgs Bosons and Cosmic Neutrino Detection
Sammanfattning : The Standard Model of particle physics successfully describes present collider data. Nevertheless, theoretical and cosmological results call for its extension. A softly broken supersymmetric completion around the TeV scale solves several of the outstanding issues. Supersymmetry requires two Higgs doublets, leading to five physical Higgs states. LÄS MER
5. Studies on the effect of ErbB tyrosine kinase inhibitors on malignant melanoma growth and survival in vitro
Sammanfattning : Malignant melanoma has one of the fastest increasing incidences among the different types of cancerin the Western world. This raise can partly be ascribed to the change in sun habits that has takenplace during the last decades, since the major external risk factor for melanoma is exposure toultraviolet radiation.
