  1. 1. Developing Multimodal Spoken Dialogue Systems : Empirical Studies of Spoken Human–Computer Interaction

    Författare :Joakim Gustafson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Spoken dialogue system; multimodal; speech; GUI; animated agents; embodied conversational characters; talking heads; empirical user studies; speech corpora; system evaluation; system development; Wizard of Oz simulations; system architecture; linguis; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents work done during the last ten years on developing five multimodal spoken dialogue systems, and the empirical user studies that have been conducted with them. The dialogue systems have been multimodal, giving information both verbally with animated talking characters and graphically on maps and in text tables. LÄS MER

  2. 2. In search for the conversational homunculus : serving to understand spoken human face-to-face interaction

    Författare :Jens Edlund; Joakim Gustafson; David Traum; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Acoustics; Akustik;

    Sammanfattning : In the group of people with whom I have worked most closely, we recently attempted to dress our visionary goal in words: “to learn enough about human face-to-face interaction that we are able to create an artificial conversational partner that is humanlike”. The “conversational homunculus” figuring in the title of this book represents this “artificial conversational partner”. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Children’s early mathematics learning and development : Number game interventions and number line estimations

    Författare :Jessica Elofsson; Ulf Träff; Joakim Samuelsson; Stefan Gustafson; Camilla Björklund; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; mathematics learning and development; number knowledge and skills; intervention; number games; number line estimation; representations of number; lärande och utveckling i matematik; numeriska kunskaper och färdigheter; intervention; numeriska spel; skattningar av tal på tallinjer; representationer av tal.;

    Sammanfattning : Children’s early mathematics learning and development have become a topic of increasing interest over the past decade since early mathematical knowledge and skills have been shown to be a strong predictor of later mathematics performance. Understanding how children develop mathematical knowledge and skills and how they can be supported in their early learning could thus prove to be a vital component in promoting learning of more formal mathematics. 4. 4. Data-driven Methods for Spoken Dialogue Systems : Applications in Language Understanding, Turn-taking, Error Detection, and Knowledge Acquisition

    Författare :Raveesh Meena; Gabriel Skantze; Joakim Gustafson; Helen Hastie; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Language Understanding; Turn-taking; Error Detection; Knowledge Acquisition; Crowdsourcing; semantisk tolkning talspråk; turtagning i dialogsystem; fel och missförstånd; crowdsourcing; dialogsystem; Tal- och musikkommunikation; Speech and Music Communication;

    Sammanfattning : Spoken dialogue systems are application interfaces that enable humans to interact with computers using spoken natural language. A major challenge for these systems is dealing with the ubiquity of variability—in user behavior, in the performance of the various speech and language processing sub-components, and in the dynamics of the task domain. 5. 5. Modelling Paralinguistic Conversational Interaction : Towards social awareness in spoken human-machine dialogue

    Författare :Daniel Neiberg; Joakim Gustafson; Nigel Ward; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Parallel with the orthographic streams of words in conversation are multiple layered epiphenomena, short in duration and with a communicativepurpose. These paralinguistic events regulate the interaction flow via gaze,gestures and intonation. LÄS MER
