Sammanfattning : The mass production of Christian art in the 19th century, including all the reproductions of the Christ by the Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen, has contributed to a cliché that many persons perceive as a true portrait of the historical Jesus, even though it ultimately stands, not for a historical probability, but for the classical ideal of noble beauty. Sammanfattning : An investigation concerning a group of paintings sharing a common motif. The motif is the Madonna with the infants Jesus and Saint John, the Infant Jesus holding a goldfinch. Rapahel's version of the painting, in the Uffizi, is discussed in relation to a similar version of the motif that appeared in Sweden in the 1990's.. LÄS MER

Sammanfattning : This thesis intends to answer the question: How was the narrative of the mission in China formulated and used to engender and sustain the fervour of the friends of the mission in the 1890s? It was at this time, with growing unemployment, lack of housing, and of poverty – a time when new and challenging ideas emerge – that the interest in the missions to China awoke. The context of the missionary narrative in this thesis is the Swedish town of Jönköping, a place with a strong religious image and therefore often called “Småland’s Jerusalem”. LÄS MER
