1. A Software Framework for Implementation and Evaluation of Co-Simulation Algorithms
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, simulation of coupled dynamic models, denoted sub-systems, is analyzed and described in a co-simulation context. This means that the respective coupled systems contain their own internal integrator, hidden from the coupling interface. Co-Simulation is an interesting and active research field where industry is a driving force. LÄS MER
2. Physical Modeling and Control of Low Temperature Combustion in Engines
Sammanfattning : The topic of this thesis is model-based control of two combustion engine concepts, Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) and Partially Premixed Combustion (PPC), using physics-based models. The studied combustion concepts hold promise of reducing the emission levels and fuel consumption of internal combustion engines. LÄS MER
3. Optimization of Low-Level Controllers and High-Level Polymer Grade Changes
Sammanfattning : Two design problems at different levels in the control hierarchy are considered; optimization of robust low-level controllers with constrained control signal activity and optimization of economical high-level polyethylene grade changes. As for the first design problem, a constraint on control signal activity due to measurement noise is presented and used when optimizing and comparing PI/PID controllers with measurement filters of different orders. 4. Numerical and Symbolic Methods for Dynamic Optimization
Sammanfattning : Mathematical optimization is becoming increasingly important for engineering in general and control in particular. This thesis deals with numerical methods, primarily direct collocation, and symbolic methods, primarily block-triangular ordering and tearing, for numerical solution of general dynamic optimization problems involving dynamical systems modeled by large-scale differential-algebraic equations (DAE). 5. Modeling and Optimization for Critical Vehicle Maneuvers
Sammanfattning : As development in sensor technology, situation awareness systems, and computational hardware for vehicle systems progress, an opportunity for more advanced and sophisticated vehicle safety-systems arises. With the increased level of available information---such as position on the road, road curvature and knowledge about surrounding obstacles---future systems could be seen utilizing more advanced controls, exploiting at-the-limit behavior of the vehicle.
