  1. 1. Standardization of Islet Isolation and Transplantation Variables

    Författare :Andrew S Friberg; Olle Korsgren; Daniel Brandhorst; Paul R. V. Johnson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Islet isolation; standardization; enzyme; gradient separation; digital imaging analysis; DIA; transplantation outcome; islet transplantation; prediction; Medical technology; Medicinsk teknik; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi; Computerized Image Processing; Datoriserad bildbehandling;

    Sammanfattning : Currently, the transplantation of islets of Langerhans is a viable means to maintain control of blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of hypoglycemia in defined populations with brittle type I diabetes mellitus or those requiring pancreatectomy. However, the process of islet isolation is highly variable and not all isolations result in islet numbers or quality suitable for transplantation. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Islet Transplantation a Technical Challenge : Studies on Human Pancreas Preservation and Enzymatic Digestion

    Sammanfattning : Islet transplantation has found its niche in diabetes treatment. It has contributed to a better quality of life and better glycemic control of patients with diabetes suffering from severe hypoglycemia that are not eligible for vascularized pancreas transplantation. Islet isolation is a technically challenging procedure. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Formation of Composite Islet Grafts : A novel strategy to promote islet survival and revascularization

    Författare :Ulrika Johansson; Peetra Magnusson; Korsgren Olle; Bo Nilsson; Federico Bertuzzi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Islet of Langerhans; cytokines and cytokinereceptors expression; endothelial cells; mesenchymal stromal cells; transplantation; revascularization; Clinical immunology; Klinisk immunologi; cellforskning; cellforskning;

    Sammanfattning : The islets of Langerhans are small and delicate spheroid organs scattered in the pancreas responsible for insulin production. Transplantation of isolated islets is a beneficial therapy for patients with a severe form of type 1 diabetes. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Technical challenges in human islet isolation

    Författare :Magnus Ståhle; Olle Korsgren; Andrew Friberg; Federico Bertuzzi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Transplantation of islets of Langerhans is an effective treatment option for patients with brittle type 1 diabetes mellitus. This treatment restores glucose control and also reduces hypoglycemia. Unfortunately, the outcome from islet isolations is variable, and many preparations do not yield sufficient islet number or islet quality. LÄS MER

  5. 5. In vivo imaging of islet cells and islet revascularization

    Författare :Daniel Nyqvist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Glucose homeostasis depends on the release of insulin from the pancreatic beta-cell. Impaired insulin release is a hallmark of diabetes mellitus. LÄS MER
