  1. 1. Anaemia and iron deficiency in children and women in Tanzania. Effects of dietary iron intake, low iron bioavailability and supplementation with multiple micronutrient beverage

    Författare :Simon Tatala; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :serum ferritin; haemoglobin; multiple micronutrient beverage; dietary iron intake; anaemia; serum retinol; iron deficiency; children and Tanzania; pregnant women; iron bioavailability;

    Sammanfattning : Anaemia was investigated in a rural Tanzanian community to determine its magnitude and causative factors in different population groups. Nutritional anaemia resulting mainly from a diet with a low bioavailability of iron affected more than half of the total number of women and children. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Effects of Delayed versus Early Cord Clamping on Healthy Term Infants

    Författare :Ola Andersson; Lena Hellström-Westas; Magnus Domellöf; Heike Rabe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; active management; birth; breast feeding; cord clamping; ferritin; growth; haemoglobin; human infant; infections; iron; iron deficiency; iron deficiency anemia; iron status; morbidity; neurodevelopment; randomised controlled trial; umbilical cord; Pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to study maternal and infant effects of delayed cord clamping (≥180 seconds, DCC) compared to early (≤10 seconds, ECC) in a randomised controlled trial. Practice and guidelines regarding when to clamp the cord vary globally, and different meta-analyses have shown contradictory conclusions on benefits and disadvantages of DCC and ECC. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Iron deficiency in female adolescent athletes - prevalence, mechanisms and diagnostics

    Författare :Göran Sandström; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; iron deficiency; iron deficiency anaemia; female adolescents; physical activity; inflammation; Helicobacter pylori;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Iron deficiency (ID) is a very common condition and the most common nutritional deficiency in the world. ID mostly affects females, both athletes and non-athletes. Several underlying mechanisms are identified such as insufficient dietary intake and losses by menses. LÄS MER

  4. 4. IRON NUTRITION DURING EARLY CHILDHOOD. Factors influencing iron status and iron intake

    Författare :Ann-Cathrine Bramhagen; Preventiv pediatrik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; feeding situation; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Pediatrics; Medicin människa och djur ; iron deficiency; Pediatri; maternal experinces; influencing factors; iron intake; child*;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to describe the prevalence of iron deficiency (ID) and factors influencing iron status and iron intake among otherwise healthy children. The specific aim in paper I+II was to describe the prevalence of ID among 2 ½-year-old children in relation to intake of cow's milk and follow-on formula. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Delayed cord clamping in Nepal-Evidence for implementation

    Författare :Nisha Rana; Mats Målqvist; Ola Andersson; Ashish KC; Thorkild Tylleskär; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis were to investigate effects of timing of umbilical cord clamping on newborn health, and on infant outcomes up to 12 months of age in a high-risk population and to explore the context of implementing changed umbilical cord clamping practices in Nepal.A randomised controlled trial with 540 late preterm and term infants born by normal vaginal delivery was set up at a maternity hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal.
