  1. 1. Speech perception, phonological sensitivity, and articulation in early vocabulary development

    Författare :Iris-Corinna Schwarz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; speech perception; phonological representation; language acquisition; early vocabulary development; lexical restructuring; Children s language; Barnspråk;

    Sammanfattning : Speech perception, articulation, and word learning are three major tiers of language development in young children, integrating perceptual and productive language abilities. Infant speech perception precedes speech production and is the basis for native language learning. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Perceptual reorganization of vowels : Separating the linguistic and acoustic parts of the mismatch response

    Författare :Ellen Marklund; Francisco Lacerda; Iris-Corinna Schwarz; Riitta Salmelin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; language acquisition; infants; speech perception; MMR; MMN; perceptual reorganization; Linguistics; lingvistik;

    Sammanfattning : During the first year of life, infants go from perceiving speech sounds primarily based on their acoustic characteristics, to perceiving speech sounds as belonging to speech sound categories relevant in their native language(s). The transition is apparent in that very young infants typically discriminate both native and non-native speech sound contrasts, whereas older infants show better discrimination for native contrasts and worse or no discrimination for non-native contrasts. 3. 3. Turn-taking and early phonology : Contingency in parent-child interaction and assessment of early speech production

    Författare :Ulrika Marklund; Francisco Lacerda; Iris-Corinna Schwarz; Barbro Bruce; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; parent-child interaction; turn-taking; parental responsiveness; phonological development; phonological complexity; assessment of speech production; Phonetics; fonetik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on contingency in parent-child interaction, investigating it in the light of the linguistic capacity of the child and the status of the caregiver. Further, the thesis covers the development of two tools to assess the developmental maturity level of expressive phonology. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Articulation Rate and Surprisal in Swedish Child-Directed Speech

    Författare :Johan Sjons; Mats Wirén; Robert Östling; Iris-Corinna Schwarz; Francisco Lacerda; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; articulation rate; information-theoretic surprisal; child-directed speech; final lengthening; spontaneous; longitudinal;

    Sammanfattning : Child-directed speech (CDS) differs from adult-directed speech (ADS) in several respects whose possible facilitating effects for language acquisition are still being studied. One such difference concerns articulation rate --- the number of linguistic units by the number of time units, excluding pauses --- which has been shown to be generally lower than in ADS. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Mapping prosody onto the lexicon : Memory traces for lexically specified prosodic information in the brain

    Författare :Hatice Zora; Mattias Heldner; Iris-Corinna Schwarz; Valéria Csépe; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; lexical access; prosody; neuroimaging; electroencephalography; event-related potentials; memory trace; typology; English; Turkish; Swedish; Linguistics; lingvistik;

    Sammanfattning : Lexical access, the matching of auditory information onto lexical representations in the brain, is a crucial component of online language processing. To understand the nature of lexical access, it is important to identify the kind of acoustic information that is stored in the long-term memory and to study how the brain uses such information.
