  1. 1. Pathophysiological importance of Beta1-Adrenergic receptor autoantibodies in the development of cardiomyopathy and heart failure. Clinically and experimentally

    Författare :Lisa Buvall; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Dilated Cardiomyopathy; Beta1 Adrenergic Receptor; Antibody; Cardiac; Function; Intravenous Immunoglobulin; Immunoadsorption; Cultured Cardiomyocytes; ; rat; mice; GRK2;

    Sammanfattning : Idiopathic Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a heart muscle disease of unknown originthat is characterized by ventricular dilation and the impaired contraction of the left orboth ventricles, resulting in progressive heart failure and sudden cardiac death. Antibodiesagainst different cardiac proteins have been found in DCM; they include antibodiesagainst the 1-adrenergic receptor (1AR). LÄS MER

  2. 2. On HIV-1 latency and viral reservoirs

    Författare :Tomas Mellberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; HIV-1; Latency; Intravenous immunoglobulin; residual viremia; low level viremia; Ultrasensitive PCR methods; Central nervous system;

    Sammanfattning : HIV-1 establishes a latent infection that is inaccessible to treatment in cellular and anatomical reservoirs. This thesis concerns several problematic issues of HIV-1 persistence, including ways to measure and monitor both the virus at low viral concentrations and the depletion of the reservoir. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Treatment of Pseudomonas aeruginosa using immunoglobulin Y : A porcine experimental model of ventilator-associated pneumonia and septic shock caused by P. aeruginosa

    Författare :Alexander Otterbeck; Miklós Lipcsey; Michael Haney; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care; Infektionssjukdomar; Infectious Diseases;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a common cause of morbidity and mortality in patients treated in the intensive care unit. The spread of pathogens with anti-microbial resistance mandates the investigation of novel therapeutic strategies. We hypothesized that specific polyclonal anti-P. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Immune moldulatory effects of intravenous immunoglobulin in vitro and after allogeneic bone marrow transplantation

    Författare :Sven Klaesson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :IVIG; IgG; F ab 2; Fc; immune modulation; T cell responses; Bcell responses; cytokines; bone marrow transplantation; infections; CMV; graft-versus-hostdisease;

    Sammanfattning : Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) has been used in patients with immunodeficiencies and various autoimmune diseases. Its immune modulatory effect is well documented. In allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (BMT) IVIG has been used to reduce the incidence of infections and graft-versus-host-disease (GVHD). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Immunomodulation by intravenous immunoglobulin : the effect on cytokine production studied at the single-cell level

    Författare :Ulrika Skansén-Saphir; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Preparations of pooled human immunoglobulin for intravenous use (IVIg) have an established therapeutic role in immunodeficiencies, Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura and Kawasaki's disease and has been attempted in other immunologically mediated conditions including autoimmunity, malignancies, bone marrow transplantation and serious infections such as group A streptococcal toxic shock syndrome. The effects of IVIg on cytokine synthesis in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) was studied in vitro by applying a new immunohistochemical method for detection of cytokine production at a single cell level.
