  1. 1. Pulmonary Injury Following Intestinal Ischemia and Reperfusion in Rats

    Författare :Anna Börjesson; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reperfusion injury; intestinal ischemia; pulmonary injury; endothelium; cytokines; alveolar fluid clearance; leukocytes; orthopaedics; Surgery; traumatology; ortopedi; Kirurgi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : Intestinal ischemia and reperfusion (I/R) is a potentially life-threatening condition, sometimes leading to a systemic inflammatory response and the potential development of the multiple organ dysfunction syndrome. The overall aim of the thesis was to study the effects of intestinal I/R on pulmonary function with special emphasis on removal of excess alveolar fluid, pulmonary endothelial barrier permeability, leukocyte accumulation and function, and possible therapeutic strategies to prevent the development of pulmonary injury following intestinal I/R. 2. 2. Intestinal Mucosa Reconstitution and Protection: Impact of Luminal Factors

    Författare :Yilei Mao; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Probiotics; Pectin; Oat; Methotrexate; Lactobacilli; Intestinal injury; Intestinal immunity; Intestinal barrier; Enterocolitis; Fiber; Radiation; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : The gastrointestinal mucosa is one of the most rapidly proliferating tissues in the body, and serves as a barrier to luminal bacteria and toxins. Enteral nutrition, luminal fiber and probiotics are of crucial importance for the integrity of this barrier. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Intestinal effects of lung recruitment maneuvers

    Författare :Jonas Claesson; Ola Winsö; Stefan Lehtipalo; Conny Arnerlöv; Björn Biber; Göran Hedenstierna; Petter Aadahl; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; acute lung injury; oleic acid lung injury; ischemia; reperfusion injury; swine; mechanical ventilation; lung recruitment; splanchnic circulation; laser Doppler flowmetry; tissue oxygen tension; microdialysis; lactate; glycerol; Anaesthetics and intensive care; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; lungmedicin; Lung Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Background and aims: Lung recruitment maneuvers (brief episodes of high airway pressure) are a modern treatment alternative to achieve open lung conditions under mechanical ventilation of patients with acute lung injury. It is well known that positive pressure ventilation with high airway pressures cause negative circulatory effects, and that the effects on regional vascular beds can be even more pronounced than the systemic effects. 4. 4. Intestinal preservation for transplantation: translational approaches

    Författare :John M. Söfteland; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intestinal transplantation; intestinal preservation; apoptosis; tight junction; luminal preservation;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Intestinal preservation injury (IPI) may result in various degrees of mucosal damage, which may later favor bacterial translocation, post-reperfusion syndrome, and upregulation of alloreactivity. Experimental evidence suggests that combining vascular perfusion and cold storage with luminal interventions using polyethylene glycol (PEG) solutions may mitigate the mucosal damage and extend the safe storage time. 5. 5. Intestinal permeability : a parameter of mucosal dysfunction

    Författare :Pål Lundin; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Peptide; N-acetylcysteine; Medium-chain glyceride; Mannitol; Macromolecules; Lipid; Kinetics; In vivo; In vitro; In situ; Intestine; Injury; Inflammation; HLA-B27; HCl; Epithelium; Enhancer; dDAVP; 51Cr-EDTA; BSA; Absorption; Albumin; Permeability; Animal physiology; Djurfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The gastrointestinal tract has two opposing functions; to absorb nutrients and electrolytes, and to act as a barrier towards hazardous and non-nutritional substances. In the present thesis the barrier function of the gastrointestinal tract was studied in animal models in vivo, in situ and in vitro. LÄS MER
