1. On steady waves in two-layer fluids and ferrofluids
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns travelling waves in a two-layer fluid and on a ferrofluid jet. We prove existence of several types of such waves by reformulating the corresponding governing equation as an infinite dimensional dynamical system, where an unbounded spatial coordinate is used as time. 2. Tidally generated internal waves
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the internal tide in the deep ocean, which is generated by the barotropic tide flowing over the bottom topography. The energy flux from the barotropic tide to the internal-wave field at the bottom is calculated using a method based on linear-wave theory and the traditional WKB approximation valid for a slowing varying vertical stratification. 3. Spiritum sidus : The star of our life – On internal tides in the ocean
Sammanfattning : Tidal currents flowing over rough bathymetry generate internal tides. These internal waves with tidal frequency can be decomposed into vertical modes. Low modes generally travel thousands of kilometers, until they break due to shear flow instabilities, while high modes are believed to break close to the generation site. LÄS MER
4. On Steady Water Waves and Their Properties
Sammanfattning : Abstract: This thesis consists of four papers related to various aspects of steady water waves. Paper I: Deep-water waves with vorticity: symmetry and rotational behaviour. We show that for steady, periodic, and rotational gravity deep-water waves, a monotone surface profile between troughs and crests implies symmetry. LÄS MER
5. Ships, clouds, and waves : understanding ecosystems in traditional industries
Sammanfattning : This dissertation builds on a jointly phenomenological and theoretical approach to investigate how traditional industries face challenges related to ecosystem innovation. Phenomenologically, it investigates how innovation within the shipbuilding industry affects the activities performed by firms that have traditionally filled the role of suppliers to shipyards. LÄS MER
